We need the jerks names who want this tax so after it’s raised, we can at least inform the sheeple who to thank for the increase.

Go Euro all the way. Kick it up to 50%. We can afford that $8 per gallon, no problem. Just keep the birthright to open road and flowing gasoline.

— Work to cut traffic fatalities in half over the next 17 years by urging states to embrace new strategies to improve safety.

Which, of course, is directly counter to the new CAFE standards mandated by Congress -- which will make cars not only more expensive (by $6000), but smaller and lighter and more dangerous (by 4000 fatalities per year).

More government is good for us...

Texas enter long-term contracts with private companies to build and operate toll roads.

Now there's a concept - let private outfits foot the bill for building roads and get payback with tolls from those who use them - rather than soak every poor sucker, most of whom will never use the roads - or rarely.

It's a "Consumption Tax" like the FAIR TAX.

Use it=pay for it

Don't use it = don't pay for it.

What a strange concept in this socialist country

Who do you think will suffer the most with this gasoline tax increase? You got it, the poor. I thought the dhimmicraps were all in favor of helping the poor.

Congestion tolling is a particularly heinous concept. the idea is that you charge the highest possible tolls for cars using the road during rush hour, the idea being that you simply force people to take some other route, or, you force them onto your loot rail system instead.

The problem is that the transit systems rarely go where people work, and the tolls simply punish the people who are guilty of nothing more than trying to hold down a job.

The Minneapolis bridge collapse, which killed 13 people and injured about 100, also shone a national spotlight on the unsteady condition of the nation's roads and bridges and drew new calls for additional spending.

A report today exposed the bridge failure as a defect in the DESIGN of the bridge, not because of inadequate maintenance or insufficient funds for maintenance.

The socialists are running full tilt to make driving a private vehicle unaffordable while raping our wallets to pay for more useless rail projects. The mandated increase in CAFE fuel standards will be accomplished by making vehicles smaller and lighter. That will lead to INCREASED fatalities based on previous experience. That is completely opposite to the objective of lower fatalities sought in the article's recommendations. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

Ummm, shouldn’t mass transit be provided BEFORE the huge tax increase to force people to want to use the non-existent mass transit?
