Jerimiah 22:15 Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? 16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.
God also pretty much said the same thing to Nebuccanezzar, who was king of Babylon not Israel, and to a Samarian king.
Do you think that God would strip power from a King of Israel and other kings who had no bargain with God for not considering the needy, and not strip power from "we the people" for doing the same?
