Jerimiah 22:15 Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? 16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.
God also pretty much said the same thing to Nebuccanezzar, who was king of Babylon not Israel, and to a Samarian king.
Do you think that God would strip power from a King of Israel and other kings who had no bargain with God for not considering the needy, and not strip power from "we the people" for doing the same?
Indeed, you are projecting God’s commands to His theocracy onto the US of A.
Nebuccanezzar was reduced by God due his pride in claiming credit for what God had done. Where does it say that Nebuccanezzar or some unnamed Samarian King were deposed because they failed to do as God commanded His people?
I know of no place in Scripture where ye find the Lord commanding the governments of countries other than Israel and Judah to care for the poor. He commands His children under the New Covenant to do so (Read James), but not governments. Those are told to punish evil doers and reward those who do good (Romans 13).
