A national civil rights organization co-founded by Martin Luther King Jr. is pulling its 2008 national convention from Kansas City to protest decisions by the mayor.
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference thinks Mayor Mark Funkhouser showed racial insensitivity when he appointed a member of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps to the park board and when he tried to oust City Manager Wayne Cauthen, an African-American, without consulting with the City Council.
Local SCLC members also have criticized Funkhouser and his wife, who allegedly called a mayoral aide Mammy.

Isn’t this a rehash of old news?
I’ll be at a convention of sorts in Kansas City week after next - I don’t believe they’ll really be missing anything when the SCLC pulls out.

He said the SCLC probably would hold its convention, expected to
draw more than 2,000 attendees, in New Orleans instead.
2,000 attendees.
LOL, what a piddly, insignificant convention!
Sounds like a group that is trying to hang on and make money to
pay staff (for nothing of substance), years after they should
have said "Mission Accomplished" and quietly disbanded.
In making the decision, Steele said the national board considered
the Kansas City SCLC chapters recommendation that it move the
convention, as well as its pledge of solidarity with the National
Council of La Raza and other civil rights groups.
African-"AMERICANS" (?) siding with the invasion force that's
taking over African-American communities and governmental resources.
Talk about a group bent of suicide by willfully lowering their
percentage of the population of the USA.
By aiding/abetting another ethnic group that doesn't mind
demeaning stereotypes of African-Americans (those "Sambo"-
style Mexican postage stamps of the Fox administration)

Blacks are killing blacks. More blacks died because of black on black killings in Philly this past year. This group is worried about “mammy”. A former klansman is in the US Senate and this group of “old farts” are worried about “mammy” and the park board. How funny.

The gang of Black thugs who have run Kansas City for years are upset that the Mayor is not in their pocket. This is all about graft and corruption, nothing more.

I agree. It’s nice to see the mayor not give in to their demands and threats. A mayor with balls - what a concept.
