ROMNEY'S MO' IN MICHIGAN

DETROIT -- It may just be that this time, momentum is on Romney’s side as he battles here to win the early primary in Michigan.

Romney took the stage at the bottom of a large atrium at Lawrence Technological University here before one of his wildest, most roaring audiences in weeks. Red foam mitts and long, red balloons dotted the crowd of more than 500, and a big chunk of supporters were decked out in multiple articles of Romney gear.

When Romney launched into his now standard lines about the trouble with Washington, he fell into a call-and-response with the crowd. Speaking about “Washington politicians, he said: “They say they’re going to reduce our dependence on foreign oil” -- which was met with a forceful “They haven’t!” from the attendees. The pattern continued with his complaints on a host of other matters, from Social Security to education to taxes to health insurance.

And the candidate, who’s often criticized for being too stiff, fed off the crowd’s energy at times, building in intensity along with them. “It’s nice to have a quiet crowd,” he later said facetiously, before adding: “This is the best crowd in Michigan I’ve had all week.” Near the end of the event, he even pointed out the Ron Paul supporter who was waving one of his signs as a Romney supporter had a triple-decker "Michigan For Mitt" sign that he was using to try and block the Paul sign. Noticing the struggle, Romney said that if the crowd wanted a doctor, they could have Paul, but if they wanted someone to fix the economy, he should be their choice.

Romney is learning how to get more excitment into his rallies. A very positive change!

Yes, I’m interested too. I watched it on a commercial, but I don’t have control of the television set.

I didn’t even get to watch Football today. I think I’ve been grounded or something. :-)

Democrats want John McCain. It would be easy for Hillary to bait him and have him lose control in a debate and start screaming.

This, imo, was the best Romney rally I have seen. He is finally catching the energy! He is so gracious in dealing with the crowd, autographs and pictures, etc.

That sounds like an excellent idea to me. :-)

Tomorrow, Mr. Romney will be speaking at the Detroit Economic Club, where he'll be received very, very well. I'm sure that will be all over the news in MI. I heard that Mr. Huckabee was not received very well there at all the other day.

Regarding, Mr. Romney's words today at this rally, IMHO, you just didn't see a politician running for office, you saw a leader and a motivator.

"Change begins with US!"

Boston, MA – Today, Staples Founder Thomas Stemberg released the following statement regarding Governor Mike Huckabee’s appearance on CBS’ “Face The Nation”:

“Governor Huckabee talks about creating jobs, but save for more government bureaucrats in Arkansas, he has never done it in the private sector. Michigan and our nation need leaders in Washington who are more than just talk. We need a leader like Mitt Romney who actually knows what it takes to create jobs. As a businessman, Governor Romney took a chance and invested in the first Staples store. Today, tens of thousands of Staples employees and Americans are benefiting from that decision. That’s a clear record of action that Mitt Romney repeated time after time. Washington needs leaders who can do more than just talk about creating jobs.”

Yes you did. I am listening to Huckabee now, at the Detroit Economic Club....zzzzzzzz....Putting me to sleep!

The contrast with Mitt is very palpable.

Hope C-Span covers his speach tomorrow.
