GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba - The chief of the U.S. military said Sunday he favors closing the prison here as soon as possible because he believes negative publicity worldwide about treatment of terrorist suspects has been "pretty damaging" to the image of the United States.
"I'd like to see it shut down," Adm. Mike Mullen said in an interview with three reporters who toured the detention center with him on his first visit since becoming chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff last October.

Well, the Navy isn't using Vieques, P.R. any more. :)

TRANSLATION:
We should close it because of the liberal media
I dont think we should grant the media any more power than they have already claimed for themselves. Let them fearmonger.
It might replace, “Don’t get stuck on stupid!”
It’s pretty bad when the Chairman of the JCS can’t be trusted to talk to the press competently. Fire this ass publicly (not that “quitting to spend more time with my family” crap like they did with Colon Bowel) and demote him to light colonel .
Anyone with scrambled eggs is pretty much a douchebag. Now I know how Iranian boats got within 200 yards of our ships.
Our real enemies will laugh at our 'weakness'. . .the rest who pretend to be our enemies; will do the same in public; but privately will be assured by our Will and independence. Meantime; they will talk the talk; until they need us. (And if this is not the case; does not matter.)
Am so sick of Libs wanting to be loved; and putting 'their face' on America.
“Bringing them to the US does not mean they will have any more rights than they do at Gitmo.”
Did you hear that everyone? Tlaloc is volunteering to keep all those prisoners who are at Gitmo on his/her property.
These Navy 4 stars are amazing.
They cozy up to China and they prime themselves for jobs in Democrat cabinets.
Go all the way back to William Crowe who sucked up to every little Clinton fantasy and got a job as Ambassador to England.
No wonder the Navy is in such trouble. These guys are looking out for themselves and don’t give a damn about the Navy, the sailors, their equipment, maybe even the United States.
Most of the guys who make flag rank are worthless little bitches that belong on a business school faculty or in an agency that primps Hollywood celebrities and runs errands for them, not the military. There’s way too many of these clowns that have BS’d their way through their careers (and life).
Whenever the top brass talks about force-reduction (or whatever flavor-of-the-month euphemism they’re using this fiscal year), it’s always the lieutenants and junior enlisted that get ran off. The military is way too top-heavy. Let’s chop the number of job slots for the brass and put them in front of a heavy-handed review board where they have to justify their continued service. Make the emphasis on wartime performance and send the Nancy-boys home with a demotion and forced retirement. Same goes for the senior civilians in govt., I’m sick of this crap.
The ship’s senior officers were probably too busy eating steak in the wardroom (while the junior guys eat crap off plastic trays that makes your high school cafeteria look like fine dining) or primping their hair in their staterooms.
One has to admit, this has been a PR victory for the the bleeding heart MSM and their European allies.
Exactly what I was thinking. I hate liberal leftests and their MSM.
WTF ????
Hey Doc, can I have some of whatever you gave him?
vaudine
If we still need it, f*** the press, and keep it. If we don’t, close it down and put the remaining inmates on a boat at sea or something.
