GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba - The chief of the U.S. military said Sunday he favors closing the prison here as soon as possible because he believes negative publicity worldwide about treatment of terrorist suspects has been "pretty damaging" to the image of the United States.

"I'd like to see it shut down," Adm. Mike Mullen said in an interview with three reporters who toured the detention center with him on his first visit since becoming chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff last October.

Never put a squid in charge.

You disgust me and dishonor many of our fine Sailors who have given their lives and currently are risking their lives for you.

You must have been educated in outcome based public schools.

ARTICLE III

Until the two contracting parties agree to the modification or abrogation of the stipulations of the agreement in regard to the lease to the United States of America of lands in Cuba for coaling and naval stations signed by the President of the Republic of Cuba on February 16, 1903, and by the President of the United States of America on the 23d day of the same month and year, the stipulations of that agreement with regard to the naval station of Guantanamo shall continue in effect. The supplementary agreement in regard to naval or coaling stations signed between the two Governments on July 2, 1903, also shall continue in effect in the same form and on the same conditions with respect to the naval station at Guantanamo. So long as the United States of America shall not abandon the said naval station of Guantanamo or the two Governments shall not agree to a modification of its present limits, the station shall continue to have the territorial area that it now has, with the limits that it has on the date of the signature of the present Treaty.

I despise these people who would like to shut down the most effective terrorist prison in the world for the sake of PR.
What a bunch of politically correct wussy morons.

I apologize if I offended anyone by posting this, or by not waiting until several months after I joined to post. It does seem funny, and a bit sad, that if someone is not spot on with another's views, they get labeled a liberal DUmmie, even if they aren't.

Welcome to FR. It's trial by fire and if you post an article damning our troops you're going to be suspect. The only thing sad is you.

The CJCS said what this post claims he said. Do you just want to bury your head in the sand and pretend it didn't happen?

Nope. Welcome to war, or south Minneapolis. Same death toll, only it was only one year in Minneapolis.

Cry me a river.

You utterly failed to respond in a meaningful way. I will ask again, do you think valid news should not be posted to FR if you don’t like it? Yes or no? And if no, then why isn’t this article meaningful news?

This should be an easy question to answer.

"Elect MIkey. He will set them free and probably give them amnesty to boot!"

-----

The Huckabee 10-point plan for dealing with enemy combatants:

1) Close down Guantanomo and bring them into the U.S. prison system;

2) Provide them with ACLU lawyers and full constitutional rights;

3) Pardon them;

4) Give them amnesty, making them U.S. citizens;

5) Grant them free tuition to the university of their choice;

6) Give them certificates of apology and reparations for the wrongs done to them by the U.S. arrogant bunker mentality;

7) Once they begin working, tax them to oblivion;

8) If they smoke, hang their dogs;

9) If they object, make a funny poopy joke;

10) Hope all of the above makes them want to go back wherever they came from;

Hank

The OP has been banned. If you want to trash our troops, get over to DU or somewhere that suits you.

I'm 47 myself and know that life is dangerous, very dangerous. Chit happens in a war zone and I'll leave it to you to figure it out. How many people died in one day from driving on our interstate highways today?

If they're agitating to close down Gitmo, yes, in fact they are. Or might as well be.

We have secret CIA prisons all over the world. CLUB GITMO is nothing but a show for the media.

Can you give the locations of a few of them?

rather than tear our military leaders down, how about kicking the bastards back to their countries, so we can kill them in the field instead of feeding them and giving them Korans.

“but the truth is German POWs were kept in the United States during WWII”

they were kept in oklahoma too. And now they have reunions with their American captors:

former american guard: Hey, nice to see you again. remember when you made lampshades out of flesh and we caught you?

former german nazi (if there is one): Yeah. Hoo boy, I thought i was finished. Then you sent me to Fort Gruber to hang out the rest of the war. Beat sitting in Dresden. Hey let me buy you a beer, Yank.
