Hillary Clinton: 'I am so proud of Obama'
CNN ^ | Jan. 13, 2008 | Sasha Johnson and Alexander Mooney

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) – Hours after Democrat Hillary Clinton was sharply critical of rival Barack Obama in an interview on NBC's Meet The Press, the New York senator struck a different tone on his candidacy in a predominantly African-American church in South Carolina.

"Probably many of us thought we would never see the day when an African-American and a woman were competing for the presidency of the United States," Clinton said at the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia. "I am so proud of my party I am so proud of my country and I am so proud of Sen. Barack Obama, because together we have presented our cases to the people."

"I am standing here, Senator Obama stands before you as a result of the generations of men and women who protested and picketed, faced dogs and tear gas," she continued. "Who were beaten and jailed who had night sticks crush their skulls. Some who lost their very lives. They risked their lives because they looked into the eyes of their children and saw the promise of a better future. We stand here today because of their sacrifice."

Clinton's comments followed her hour-long appearance on Meet The Press, in which she accused Obama's campaign of distorting remarks that she and her husband have made in recent days which touched off concerns among some African-American voters. Obama later rejected Clinton's complaints as "ludicrous."

But I can't see anything whatsoever about Hillary for women to be proud of.

IMHO she is not a person to look up to in any way. She is a downright liar & many other things which are not nice. The list is just too long lol.

According to Ben Smith at the Politico the term “spade work” is simply a gardening term and I was being paranoid thinking Hillary had used it for any other reason! Talk about your suspension of belief!

Near the top of the list would be “thug.”

So Ben Smith is saying that Hillary thinks Obama is running to be the Commander of Gardening? That’s still and insult Ben. I don’t think Obama wants to be head of the WH landscaping crew. Which, with Hillary in the Oval Office, would include embalming and burial services.

"Probably many of us thought we would never see the day when an African-American and a woman were competing for the presidency of the United States . . ."

Guess she never heard of Shirley Chisholm . . .

She was both black and a woman.

Personally, I like the way Biden said it better:

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy ... I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

Hillary... why don’t you just get over it and call Obama a “boy.” You couldn’t be any more condescending..

Or do an Archie Bunker,"You're a real credit to your race."

Hillary is working to lose in SC.

Great Strategery. All I can say is, "You go, girl!"

Personally, I see no downside to Osamabama winning SC. Personally, I am rooting for him to win the nomination. Because I do think that a Hillery!/Barack! ticket could be a sentimental winner. But if Osamabama wins the nomination, I don't believe that there's a snow-ball's chance Hillery! would play second fiddle.
Further, I don't believe that he stands a ghost of a chance winning the General Election on the basis of just his charm and shade of blackness.
Empty Suit will be easier to beat than Guh Linda.

I missed the History Channel's footage of women at the Iowa caucuses in the 1950's "facing dogs and tear gas," women "beaten and jailed who had night sticks crush their skulls."

There was a recent article about Hillary and her Joan of Arc/messiah complex. It nailed her perfectly. Wish I could remember where I read it.

I told him to do a google search and see if Hillary had ever used that word before-then he acted like I was really nuts. I wish I had thought of your “Commander of Gardening” comment but alas I’m not as quick witted as you!

Yep, the old "I'm so proud of you" speech...typically delivered by a parent, teacher, social worker, Paula Abdul and physical therapists at the nursing home to console the quivering-lipped guy on the sidelines who "tried so hard"--but is, nevertheless, not going on to the next round.

I was stretching things a bit for humor’s sake. If you really wanted to corner him on it you should ask if Hillary is a gardener and how often does she use gardening metaphors. Is she channeling Peter Sellers now instead of Eleanor Roosevelt?

"I am standing here, Senator Obama stands before you as a result of the generations of men and women who protested and picketed, faced dogs and tear gas,"

Yet Obama does not have a single relative or ancestor who ever suffered a minute in slavery. In fact his paternal grandmother was Arab, so he more likely had ancestors who were SLAVEOWNERS. How American Blacks could think he shares a damn thing with them is beyond me.
