GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Mike Huckabee broadened his populist-inspired appeal for support in Michigan on Saturday, saying he viewed his presidential campaign as a "cause" that represents a threat to the Republican establishment in Washington.
With polls showing support in Michigan's Republican primary Tuesday to be extremely fluid among Mitt Romney, John McCain and Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor also lashed out at candidates who campaign on a theme of opposing abortion but do little about it when they get into office.
"We're people who will no longer just allow people to get elected, promising that they're listening to us about the sanctity of human life," Huckabee said. "We want to elect people who will do something about protecting human life."
Speaking to about 400 people in a ballroom at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Huckabee said he loved being in the GOP, "but I love my country even more."
"I'm asking you today to be a part of something that is a lot more than just a campaign. I want to think it's a cause," Huckabee said.
"Apparently my candidacy comes as somewhat of a threat to a lot of the Republicans in the Republican establishment -- some of the folks who have run the party in the Washington circles," he said. "They've maybe not understood that the heart and soul of the Republican Party is only as strong as the heart and soul of the rest of America."

Tax cuts = revenue increases
That is a fundamental reality of tax cuts— which Huckabee enacted. It is a fundamental reality which Reagan himself enacted in the 1980s. He increased revenue to the Federal government— by cutting taxes. That did not make him a RINO or Republican liberal or whatever other nonsense we are making up here.
Using the revenue arguments as proof that he is a tax and spend liberal is ridiculous.
How about using the burden per taxpayer argument?
From the Arkansas Democrat Gazette:
“But a review of tax legislation passed while he was governor shows a net tax increase of $ 505 million, a figure adjusted for inflation and economic growth, according to the state Department of Finance and Administration.
Meanwhile, the average Arkansans tax burden grew from $ 1, 969 in the fiscal year that ended June 30, 1997, to $ 2, 902 in the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2005, including local taxes.”

Hucks a threat to all that is decent and pure in this land.
The total rate of taxation under Huckabee increased, not decreased. When Huckabee says he cut taxes, he means that sometimes when he raised taxes, he exempted things from the tax. So, for instance, if I tax all soda and then exempt diet cherry colas from the tax, that's a tax cut (in Huckaspeak). However, the key fact is that the overall rate of state taxation under Huckabee increased (by almost 10% relativey or over 1% absolutely).
Secondly, when members of his own party (and some Democrats) approached him with ways of funding government programs through actual tax cuts and budget cuts, he rebuffed them.
He says he was a Reagan Republican in 1979, when he was 24. Was he a Carterite in 1976?
Huckabee is a phony slimeball and he is a threat to all good patriotic Americans.
Nope! He’s a threat to CONSERVATISM .. because Huck isn’t one, he just likes to play one.
Sure he is, he's solidly in Hillary's camp and the press loves him.
Fake fake fake fake fake fake fake
vaudine
Mike Huckabee is also a threat to the US.
Huckabee says he’s a threat to the GOP establishment
Because he is a Democrat for sure.
If by “establishment’, they mean rock ribbed, Reagan conservatives, then he is correct.
