Huckabee says he's a threat to the GOP establishment

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Mike Huckabee broadened his populist-inspired appeal for support in Michigan on Saturday, saying he viewed his presidential campaign as a "cause" that represents a threat to the Republican establishment in Washington.

With polls showing support in Michigan's Republican primary Tuesday to be extremely fluid among Mitt Romney, John McCain and Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor also lashed out at candidates who campaign on a theme of opposing abortion but do little about it when they get into office.

"We're people who will no longer just allow people to get elected, promising that they're listening to us about the sanctity of human life," Huckabee said. "We want to elect people who will do something about protecting human life."

Speaking to about 400 people in a ballroom at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Huckabee said he loved being in the GOP, "but I love my country even more."

"I'm asking you today to be a part of something that is a lot more than just a campaign. I want to think it's a cause," Huckabee said.

"Apparently my candidacy comes as somewhat of a threat to a lot of the Republicans in the Republican establishment -- some of the folks who have run the party in the Washington circles," he said. "They've maybe not understood that the heart and soul of the Republican Party is only as strong as the heart and soul of the rest of America."

“Huckabee says he’s a threat to the GOP establishment”

No, he’s more of the same.

Another “compassionate” (read: big government) conservative.

No thank you!

Huck is once again appealing to liberals. Huck should change his party to Democrat and get it over with.

What we are afraid to see is that the American people have become more and more attuned to government taking care of them, and I don’t just mean welfare recipients. We want gov’t. to educate our kids, pay for their college, watch after our health, tell us what to eat and drink, make sure the old folks are taken care of, let them tell us what we can drive, and on and on and on. We have abrogated responsibility for our own lives and for caring for our families and ask Uncle Sam to be our daddy.

This seems to be what most people expect now. How can you believe people want to be free when they meakly allow bureaucrats to dictate even the most mundane aspects of our lives, such as toilets, light bulbs, and household appliances?

I hate to be so pessimistic, but it seems that we are going the way of Europe. Conservatism is pretty much dead, even among those who still think of themselves as being conservative. We all line up for the government goodies when we can get them.

He’s a threat to CONSERVATISM!

a threat to small government,
a threat to a strong foreign policy,
a threat to a strong national defense.

The people screaming loudest about the danger of Huckabee are the ones that have been the most critical of the inside the beltway Republicans.

It is laughable that the Dope from Hope lumps Rush, Ingraham and Ann Coulter, and presumably 75% of Freepers in with the NY / DC Axis. Give me a break.

Huckabee is a pandering populist and he picked the wrong party.

Wow, the Huckster is channeling Nelson Rockefeller, Jacob Javits, McInsane and even (drum roll) ...... Rudy.

(there's a joke there somewhere about 'Amway Hotel')

The sad thing is when he finally loses, the MSM will claim that his Christian, pro-life, traditional family views were the reason. When in fact, thats the reason he’s drawing the support that he is. Its the liberalism stupid.

Hmmmmmm.....”Its the liberalism stupid.”

A sign that should greet the Huckster everywhere.

My flaming liberal friend LOVES Huckabee! That’s all I need to know. Mike Huckabee will just be another George Bush. We don’t need no more “compassionate conservatives”.

I’d like to see Thompson take the Huckster out ASAP & Romney work on McCain. Then, they can gang up on Rudy.
