Iran: AIDS rate doubles in the holy city of Qom
Tehran, 11 Jan. (AKI) - In the past year, the incidence of AIDS has doubled in the holy Shia city of Qom, second only to the Iraqi city of Najaf in religious significance.
"The great share of the newly infected have contracted the HIV virus, not through using infected syringes, but through unprotected sexual relations," said Amir, Akbari, director of the city's health centre.
In the past year the number of those affected by AIDS in Qom has risen from 177 to 324.
Forty per cent of those infected are students from the theological colleges in Qom. In Iran, according to official estimates, there are more than 16,000 infected with AIDS in the country, while non-government organisations put the total number above 100,000.

{....the holy shia city of qom - holy shiite!.....}
Yeah. I live near the Holy city of Biloxi, not far from the Holy city of Pascagoula.
Hehehe - Biloxi, huh - did you see this thread? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1952803/posts
Yes, they claim every city is holy. The “second” most holy city is in Iraq per the article, not Saudi Arabia where the other first and second most holy cities are. The article’s author is insulting one sect of Islam by making the other sect’s most holy cities less holy.
When does anyone write about Jerusalem or Vatican City in the same breathless way?
So is this homosexual activity or Qom prostitutes?
The problem is that they can’t tell Qom from Bum..
Qom appears to be Iran’s San Francisco.
“We don’t have homosexuals like in your country.”
This is true. In our country, the homos are out of the closet and shoving their perversion in everyone’s faces. In Islamic countries, homos are common, but still in the closet.
I had a Marine friend who taught hydraulics in Iran. After a lesson a guys hand would go up and he would call on him expecting a question about hydraulics only to here "You look very handsome today sgt".
