Much of the national leadership of the Christian conservative movement has turned a cold shoulder to the Republican presidential campaign of Mike Huckabee, wary of his populist approach to economic issues and his criticism of the Bush administrations foreign policy. But that has only fired up Brett and Alex Harris.
The Harris brothers, 19-year-old evangelical authors and speakers who grew up steeped in the conservative Christian movement, are the creators of Hucks Army, an online network that has connected 12,000 Huckabee campaign volunteers, including several hundred in Michigan, which votes Tuesday, and South Carolina, which votes Saturday.
They say they like Mr. Huckabee for the same reason many of their elders do not: He reaches outside the normal Republican box, Brett Harris said in an interview from his home near Portland, Ore.
The brothers fell for Mr. Huckabee last August when they saw him draw applause on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart for explaining that he believed in a Christian obligation to care for prenatal life and also education, health care, jobs and other aspects of life. It is a new kind of evangelical conservative position, Brett Harris said. Alex Harris added, And we are not going to have to be embarrassed about him.
Mr. Huckabee, who was a Southern Baptist minister before serving as governor of Arkansas, is the only candidate in the presidential race who identifies himself as an evangelical. But instead of uniting conservative Christians, his candidacy is threatening to drive a wedge into the movement, potentially dividing its best-known national leaders from part of their base and upending assumptions that have held the right wing together for the last 30 years.

It doesn't matter to them, IMO, they don't think, they react.
It’s amazing that as much as tolerance is preached in this country, it never seems to spill over to Christians.
You are soooo wrong. The Europeans "Christian Democrats" are exactly like Hillary and Obama (not Christian at all), not like Huck. Please read his stated positions before you say what he will do. It's at www.mikehuckabee.com. Then come back and criticize his positions.
I didn’t say 19 year olds are worthless or cowardly. I said they don’t know enough to lecture others on politics and morality.
At 12, I had enough courage to get beaten up by a half-dozen other kids for standing up for what I believed. But I had no business telling others about life, not at 12, 19, or 30.
Soliton, lol, gomer pyle is exactly like clinton, lol,
“taking care of illegal aliens gives us a chance to redeem our part in slavery”..... and “if we are nice to our enemies they will be nice to us”...... from within the last year or so out of his mouth. how much more alike can you be?
Just a hypothetical question, who led them on that path in your opinion. Could it be parents who do not listen or at least take their opinion as not valid.
That's my opinion and I already know that you think that my opinion is not valid.
“taking care of illegal aliens gives us a chance to redeem our part in slavery..... and if we are nice to our enemies they will be nice to us...... from within the last year or so out of his mouth. how much more alike can you be?”
Libbylu, you have to understand, those advocating for Huckabee are the same ones that advocated for preferential treatment of illegal aliens. They like that Huck called the rest of us racist in addressing the issue. They know what he’s all about and they’re just using ‘evangelic’ to get there.
Sorry, that's not the case. Having lived in Europe for some years I am closely familiar with Social-Christian parties, who are described as "conservative" in Europe. They resemble closely H"uckabee-ism". The rhetoric, the ideology, the religious (mis)understanding and their positions on the role of the state. They have nothing in common with Hillary or Obama. Those two are godless Leftists, who occasionally use religious rethoric for campaigning. That's a totally different page.
Please read his stated positions before you say what he will do. It's at www.mikehuckabee.com. Then come back and criticize his positions.
I read this all already. His stated "positions" contradict his past record in Arkansas. He is a cunning deceptive populist. I don't trust his positions. Why the sudden change? He has been caught lying before...
Well said. Robertson and his contempories are dinosaurs now, and they only endorsed a candidate who has been overhyped by a idiotic media.
I am old. I know lots of old people. I lived in Florida for years and now live in Allegheny County Pennsylvania, the second oldest population in America. I am an expert on old, and sir I can tell you that age don’t make you smart.
Criticize a person’s ideas based on facts and logic or even faith, if that what drives you, but by God don’t discount their ideas just because you’re older. Ever heard the expression, no fool like and old fool?
“At 19, you don’t know enough to be a worthwhile author or speaker . . . “
How about this young man o’ God?

You must have been in Amsterdam smokin the local “tobacco”. Those groups are anti-death penalty, pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage. But I am impressed that living in Europe gives you an intellectual edge over someone like me who tends to rely on book lurnin.
Huckabee is part of the religious left, because his doctrine is that of the religious left. The distinction is not simply whether you are for /or against abortion and "gay"-marriage.
Huckabee introduced his false version of Christianity, "Christian obligations," into the political discussion as a reason to vote for him. Politically any one running against him has the right to question it.
But for many of us this is more than a political issue, the issue at stake is a false gospel being used for political gain by a false prophet. It is Huckabee's misuse of the Christan faith which is shameful.
“Just a hypothetical question, who led them on that path in your opinion. Could it be parents who do not listen or at least take their opinion as not valid.
That’s my opinion and I already know that you think that my opinion is not valid.”
Humanistic “preachers” and parents who don’t know anything about being a “Christian” and of course public schools preach humanism and socialism.
BTW, it’s not about “opinions”. It’s about FACTS.
I agree the Huckabee haters are way over the top. Thompson is the best choice but Thompson attacks him because in actuality he is the next most conservative.
He’s a lot better than the other rinos - I could support him. I’m not big on his populist streak and protectionism but that would most likely die after the election. The fair tax is great for an economic boom too.
thank you, hadn’t quite looked at it like that.
I’m using logic. At 19, you haven’t lived enough to be wise to the ways of the world. Age doesn’t make you smart, but youth certainly contributes to foolishness!
Good luck with that and your elderly candidate
