Young Evangelicals Embrace Huckabee as Old Guard Balks
The New York TImes ^ | January 13, 2008 | David Kirkpatrick

Posted on 01/12/2008 11:57:40 AM PST by mngran2

Much of the national leadership of the Christian conservative movement has turned a cold shoulder to the Republican presidential campaign of Mike Huckabee, wary of his populist approach to economic issues and his criticism of the Bush administration’s foreign policy. But that has only fired up Brett and Alex Harris.

The Harris brothers, 19-year-old evangelical authors and speakers who grew up steeped in the conservative Christian movement, are the creators of Huck’s Army, an online network that has connected 12,000 Huckabee campaign volunteers, including several hundred in Michigan, which votes Tuesday, and South Carolina, which votes Saturday.

They say they like Mr. Huckabee for the same reason many of their elders do not: “He reaches outside the normal Republican box,” Brett Harris said in an interview from his home near Portland, Ore.

The brothers fell for Mr. Huckabee last August when they saw him draw applause on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” for explaining that he believed in a Christian obligation to care for prenatal “life” and also education, health care, jobs and other aspects of “life.” “It is a new kind of evangelical conservative position,” Brett Harris said. Alex Harris added, “And we are not going to have to be embarrassed about him.”

Mr. Huckabee, who was a Southern Baptist minister before serving as governor of Arkansas, is the only candidate in the presidential race who identifies himself as an evangelical. But instead of uniting conservative Christians, his candidacy is threatening to drive a wedge into the movement, potentially dividing its best-known national leaders from part of their base and upending assumptions that have held the right wing together for the last 30 years.

There is no denying that the religious left exists. It just pisses me off that they claim to be conservatives!

Like PJ O’Rorke (sp?) once wrote, ‘It will do you no good on Judgment Day to stand before God and say, “But God! I gave other people’s money to the poor!”

“A question, why are people(Rollins, Pinkerton. etc) who served a Predisent who projected strength, poise and confidence,(Reagan) joining Huckabee’s campaign?”

Don’t forget part of that, etc. is Jim Gilchrist. Why are you lining up with someone you had such disdain for? For once you were right Dane, Jim’s a fool.

You support Huck because you know he’s soft on illegal immigration like any good democrat would. Why not just admit it?

I don’t accept it. Labeling Huckabee as the religious left is just a cheap shot which slanders fellow Christians for nothing more than political gain. It’s shameful.

It’s not a cheap shot...it’s the truth, whether you like it or not.

As I said, research Christian Democrats.

At 19, you don't know enough to be a worthwhile author or speaker - you haven't lived enough to find your butthole with two hands and a map, let alone give lessons to your elders.

Some 19 year olds are heroes of mine: The next day, January 26 (the temperature was 14 degrees with 24 inches of snow on the ground), the battle at Holtzwihr (France) began with Murphy's unit at an effective strength of 19 out of 128. Murphy sent all of his men to the rear while he took pot-shots at the Germans until out of ammunition. He then proceeded to use an abandoned, burning tank destroyer's .50 caliber machine gun to cut into the German infantry at a distance, including one full squad of German infantry that had crawled in a ditch to within 100 feet of his position. Wounded in the leg during heavy fire, he continued this nearly single-handed battle for almost an hour. His focus on the battle before him stopped only when his telephone line to the artillery fire direction center was cut by either U.S. or German artillery. As his remaining men came forward, he quickly organized them to conduct a counter attack, which ultimately drove the enemy away from Holtzwihr. These actions earned Murphy the Medal of Honor.... He was 19 at the time.

The religious left are the religious people who are pro-abortion, pro-homosesxual pro-anything that offends our holy God. Disagreeing on whether Huckabee was right or wrong to meet the education tax demands of his state’s supreme court is not in that category.

Yes ... .

“There is a growing number of 30 somethings and younger who are gravitating to the left side of Christianity. Pro environment, pro life, anti-war, etc. Scares me to death to know a preacher is in church lecturing on global warming.”

This Scripture comes to mind:

2Tim.4:3

[3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

So is the religious right.

But, that's not all that religious left are, which is why I asked you to research the Christian Democrats in Europe.

BTW, Christian Democrats is a political party.

This is nothing more than the liberal humanist pseudo-Christian social gospel. it has been around since the 1900's, is not new, and is apostate respecting the authentic gospel. It conceives of the cure for sin as being found in government as a pseudo messiah. It is in another form the doctrine of Hillary, Obama, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton

It also confuses the Christians personal calling concerning those about him with the biblical calling and limits of government (Rom 13). The government is charged with preventing and punishing murder - abortion. It is not charged with "prenatal" life or health care. Education in the Bible is a parental matter and is not the government's job.

Huckabee whom these children are quoting, is nether a political nor a religious conservative. He is not a biblical evangelical.

HUH?

Where did this come from?

“So you andthe ‘old guard’ like Pat Robertson can stick with Rudy.”

I’m not voting for Rudy nor do I pay attention to Pat.

I see more of this going on ...

There is a growing number of 30 somethings and younger who are gravitating to the left side of Christianity. Pro environment, pro life, anti-war, etc. Scares me to death to know a preacher is in church lecturing on global warming.

The Huckster is not practicing or preaching sound doctrine and the IGNORANT who wish to remain IGNORANT are endorsing unBiblical principles - socialism and humanism.

Nope, what you are describing are the usual libs pretending to be religious. Even Hillary and Obama do this. The religious left are Huckabee&Co. Socially conservative but using socialist statism to fulfill their understanding of biblical teaching. They are the American counterparts of the European Social-Christian parties which pass as right-wing for European standards.

Huckabee whom these children are quoting, is nether a political nor a religious conservative. He is not a biblical evangelical.

This is coming to pass with the endorsment of IGNORANT “Chritsians”.

“Huckabee represents a clear invasion of the Religious right by the religious left. If the core of the religious right ever falls to religious and political populism of Democrats then the Republican party is over.”

Having worked in several campaigns I have seen many staffers. Most don't work for ideology, they work for self-interest.
