This is a very imperfect analogy, but... Have someone gently toss a cotton ball at you. Now have them throw it at you at 250 kps...
This cloud has the mass of tens of millions of stars, a not insignificant gravitational field, and is embedded with all kinds of other celestial debris. It's at least going to be interesting when it hits!
