It's time to start drilling.
bttt
A person might consider retiring to Alaska, but coming to Alaska looking for serious employment is somewaht iffy at this point.
We are retired but I think I would have to be a summer resident of Alaska. I spent a week deer hunting in Canada when it was 20 below zero and I thought I would die. LOL! Winter here is wonderful ,it is the summers I would like to avoid.
It has warmed up this afternoon to -23. Weatherman says maybe -40 tomorrow. It’s been -40 someplace in Alaska all winter and here, too a month ago. Warmest in the past month is about -3, and it gets to grinding on you if you have to deal with machinery.
The text says this:
The general opinion of the SSRC scientists is that it could begin even sooner within 3 years with the next solar cycle 24. What we are saying today is that my own research and that of the other scientists at the SSRC
So who are these scientists? Any research center that's worth it's salt will brag about it's associates, with full resumes.
The text also says:
John Casey has reaffirmed earlier research he led that independently discovered the suns changes
Ok. But I found this at Earthfiles.com:
Dr. Hathaway is now one of the top solar astrophysicists in the world. He was surprised last week in the beginning of January 2008, to learn that his own solar physics research was being used by a non-scientist named John Casey in an Orlando, Florida company calling itself Space and Science Research Center. SSRC recently distributed an alarming press release on the internet entitled Changes in the Suns Surface to Bring Next Climate Change. The press release warned there will be a global food shortage in the next Solar Cycle 25 (approximately 2018 - 2029).
[question from earthfiles.com] THAT WILL BE CALLED SOLAR CYCLE 25 AND THERE HAS BEEN A PRESS RELEASE THAT HAS BEEN CIRCULATING ON THE WEB FOR THE LAST WEEK OR SO IN 2008 FROM AN ORGANIZATION CALLED SPACE AND SCIENCE RESEARCH CENTER (SSRC) IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA. THE DIRECTOR IS JOHN CASEY. THEY HAVE RELEASED INFORMATION SAYING THEY EXPECT SOLAR CYCLE 25 TO BE SO LOW IN SUNSPOTS THAT IT WILL PLUNGE THE EARTH INTO A COOLING PERIOD THAT COULD JEOPARDIZE FOOD CROPS GLOBALLY. COULD YOU COMMENT ON HIS HYPOTHESIS?
[answer] I find it highly doubtful. First of all, he bases his prediction for a small Cycle 25 on my own work. Im well familiar with my own work! This was work where we had looked at the drift rate of sunspots on the sun and from that inferred flows that contribute to how the sun makes sunspot cycles. That flow was particularly slow during this last Cycle 23 in fact, slower than any of the previous 12 cycles.
I don't have any doubt that this guy Casey is some kind of crank. He's quoting research from this guy Hathaway, a genuine Astrophysicist PhD, but Hathaway apparently doesn't know who Casey is. If Casey had been capable of doing this kind of work independently, and had published anything, Hathaway would probably have his phone number in his cell phone. If they were doing research in something this related, they would no doubt have communicated long ago.
This "Space and Science Research Center" sounds like the Discovery Institute that's trying to sell Intelligent Design. The DI has PR flacks, talk radio guys and lawyers, but not a single staff scientist doing work at the institute. They do however manage to raise lots of donation money from rich conservatives that don't know any better.
I'd love for Global Warming to be shown to be BS, and discoveries that the Sun controls our climate rather than humans. But this SSRC press release is "Junk Science" in the truest sense of the term.
If you've got an hour and 15 minutes, I would highly recommend watching The Great Global Warming Swindle from Brit Channel 4. It presents the case for sun spot activity affecting the earth's climate.
The fact that the film won't be shown in the U.S. and that it's caused Goreys to go apopoletic suggests everyone must see it.
I agree.
They have also moved into the area of psychological terminology giving the impression of more than a touch of self-consciousness to the planet and implying that we are causing mild depression to that entity.
You swine! I got a 404!
None of that was required to get the whole man-made global warming scam started.
Interesting dual standard.
Seems the video has already been pulled from your link.
You had better lock your doors and hide under your bed. The global warming police have taken a bead on you...
My train of thought is rather simplistic about this,
but if the sun’s magnetic sphere of influance is in flux, & with our iron metal core & magnetic fields, I can see the temp. change due to the movement of these. Like the way that we get electricity by moving a magnetic field around a metal core and windings around the core. One of the by-products of this is heat, ergo climate change. and we did not do a thing to do this either...
JUST IMHO!!
Thanks, and bump for later ............ FRegards
There is a great deal of research claiming to verify AGW. I don't think it's valid, because the CO2 issue is far too complex to be modeled with validity. But claiming that science wasn't done that supported AGW is absolutely not true.
The propsed mechanism that does seem to make some sense is that additional solar activity "blows away" cosmic radiation we get from interstellar space. That cosmic radiation has been demonstated to trigger clouds on earth, thus cooling it. So high solar activity, although not directly giving us any meaningful energy from the sun, nevertheless changes the climate because it prevents cloud formation.
It's an interesting proposition, and has some experimental and measurement backup to it. But it will take significantly more study before the conclusions are bullet proof.
Like I said that it is only my humble opion. Can I prove this not really, it is just my gut feeling, but I have found most answers to the most complex problems are really simple, just the scientest make it sound diffacault to understand.
I like to work on the K.I.S.S. [keep it simple stupid].
