Huckabee Defends Joke About Fred

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Asked about Fred Thompson’s “hatchet” attack against him at Thursday's Republican debate, Mike Huckabee joked to Joe Scarborough that he thought “Fred needs some Metamucil. I think it would help a lot if he gets some. You know, he was in a bad mood last night.”

On the bus with reporters on Route 96 in Michigan from Lansing to Grand Rapids, Huckabee explained his Metamucil comment saying, “You have to understand the context of the show….It’s not quite as irreverent as Imus…not quite Stephen Colbert but it’s serious topics with an edge.”

“I really do believe if people can’t have some sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to be so locked down and consultant driven that their campaigns become so boring because all they’re going to do is give this robotic answer to everything that’s very carefully scripted. I promise you, you won’t have moments like this,” Huckabee said, gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.

“Does Romney do these?” Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.

“If I thought I couldn’t be a human being. That I gotta wait till six handlers tell me what I can and can’t say and I have to read it, you know, it’s not worth it.”

I should explain: This is because we live in a snarky, sound byte era where sarcasm is valued over substance. Just look at this “sight.”

Your logic is just stunning. Stunningly frightful.

I'm still learning. would you be kind enough to point out my error so that I won't make it again?

Jimmy Carter is funnier than Huckabee.

Seriously, Huckabee joking about Fred’s age.

Fred would knock out Huckabee with one punch I’m sure.

Huckadork.

"How is he going to defend that to his Mexican consulate?

Do you mean that Huck has a Mexican Consulate? Could you please provide me with details of where this consulate is and how he came to own it?

You’re wrong. Huck did refute it:

“I raised hope, and I got reelected in Arkansas just like Clinton.”

I think the whole problem with Fred Thompson is that people misconstrue his “laid-back” attitude. It seems people see him as the condescending lawyer/establishment type. We don’t care for lawyers in our country.

Fred goes in with the hatchet and Huckabee laughs it off and says “take some metamucil fred”.

Fred was exposing Huckabee's very liberal record and stances on the issues and Huckabee laughed it off because everything Fred said was true - therefore, the only thing he had going for him was a childish insult. It's a deflection.

So funny Huck! And when Hillary is tearing down your policy proposals what are you gonna say: “Guess Hillary didn’t take her Midol today.” Boy that will be soooo funny and will certainly win you the presidency because we Americans love poopy jokes.

Ad hominem attacks are the last refuge of a decimated position.

And of scoundrels.

No scoundrel is more scoundrelous (is that a word?) than a Christian pastor who abandons his divine calling in order to gain political power and the inevitable wealth that attends that power.

Huck would probably argue that he felt called to the political arena to fight for Christian principles and mores to be applied to secular governance. But his liberal record as AR governor is evidence for the accusation that he has done more to help maintain evils in AR such as the power of the unGodly and disastrous government school system than any good he may have done in other areas.

Although as an evangelical Christian myself I would like very much to see a true evangelical Christian president sitting behind the Oval Office desk in this extremely difficult and dangerous period of global Islamic aggression and Israeli capitulation to terror, I can't make myself believe that the Huckster from Hope is that man.

When you play it backwards like that it says “Fred is Dead, Fred is Dead” Politically of course, not literaly.

Huckabee has the evangelical vote locked up.

He doesn't have my evangelical vote, nor the vote of several of my evangelical friends.

He's an embarrassment to himself as well as many evangelicals.
