Edmund Hillary, First on Everest, Dies at 88

Sir Edmund Hillary, the lanky New Zealand mountaineer and explorer who with Tenzing Norgay, his Sherpa guide, won worldwide acclaim in 1953 by becoming the first to scale the 29,035-foot summit of Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, has died, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark announced Friday in Wellington.

He was 88.

Let us see how long it takes the PIAPS to even acknowledge his death. My guess...three maybe four days. Then again, maybe never.

I’m no climber but after watching the Everest-climbing show on
Discovery Channel for the past two seasons...the sherpas make Everest
possible for a lot of folks.

Unbelievable that the NY Times would just *now* report on this, seeing as many of us here shouted it from the rooftops YEARS ago.

And hey--how are the Klintoons doing with that "Chelsea-naming" story that they so LOVE to tell? Hey HillBilly--are you good with that? You wanna stick with that? You sure? You're good? Yeah? OK?

Joni Mitchell and this thing called the "timeline" know differently, I'd say.
