That is the one black mark against Santorum. However, he was also the strongest defender of Human life and the family that we had in the United States Senate. One of his Senate speaches in defense of marriage brought tears to my eyes just listening to it. He was frequently attacked for his socially conservative positions but he continued to stand strong so I am more than willing to forgive his one compromise while in the U.S. Senate.
Santorum Defends His Undefensable Support for Specter
When Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) --- an articulate, courageous defender of the unborn --- endorsed and campaigned for the pro-abortion, anti-life Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) against the pro-life Rep. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) in the GOP primary, many pro-lifers were puzzled and outraged. Why would Santorum do such a thing?For that, I cannot forgive him. Do it once, do it again. Party over principle is why this country is being flushed.Well, in a column in “Crisis” magazine, Santorum has defended and explained his support for Specter as the “right” decision. But, what he says is sad because he reveals that he did what he did, basically, for partisan political reasons --- for reasons that put party over principle.
