The question was posed to me last night, if the only two conservatives in the race were to drop out, leaving the hapless RINOs Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee and McCain to ward off the Evil Witch of the East then, Jim, what do we do?
Well, I think four issues that most of us conservatives will agree on that are at the top or near the top of our priority lists are National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life should be considered. We can argue all day long on whether or not these guys are constitutionally minded, small government fiscal conservatives, and I don't believe any of them are, but we'll leave that for another day. Let's concentrate on National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life.
Well, I can see right off that that rules out Rudy, the draft dodging, gun grabbing, sanctuary city abortionist. At least the other three claim to be pro-life, although Romney has been a pro-choice abortionist for all of his elected history until he decided to run for president. I think Romney's pro choice, big government nanny state (RomneyCare) record gives him two big black eyes and should knock him out of any further consideration. That leaves Huckabee and McCain.
Now, all four of these guys are terrible on border security even though they're all claiming now to be border hawks. McCain led the charge for amnesty and the rest fell in line like dutiful RINO troopers. Can't really make a distinction among these guys on the border issue. All fail, though I think most conservatives would rank McCain at or near the bottom.
Guns. Rudy's definitely out. McCain's out. Romney's not much better. Guess Huckabee the big duck hunter outshoots the others in this category.
Rudy fails in all categories, McCain and Romney fail on guns, and all fail on borders. So I guess Huckabee has more to offer over the others at this point as he is at least pro-life and pro-gun.
Now comes national defense. Sorry, but I can't see the draft dodging, gun grabbing, gay loving, cross-dressing, illegal alien pandering abortion activist Rudy Giuliani as a very appealing or effective guy to head up our military, even if he did make some rousing anti-terrorist speeches on 9/11. The "gays should be allowed to serve openly in the military" Romney (no military or national security experience that I know of) doesn't give me goosebumps either.
So, again, we're down to Huckabee and McCain. Now you all know that I like Huckabee as he is a likable fellow, and I hate McCain, but wait. If the whole shebang is going to be decided on which of the still standing Republican wannabes should defend America from the terrorists and the surrendering Democrats, I think I'll have to go with McCain over Huckabee. At least McCain served in the military and has a whole lot more military and national security experience while serving on various committees in the senate than does Huckabee. Huckabee has none. And I doubt Huckabee can defeat Hillary. But then, McCain probably won't either, so guess that leaves plan B. Squat down, tuck your head down between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.
Here's praying that the only two all around consistently reliable conservatives hang in there and one of them gets the nod.
Go Hunter!! Go, FRed, GO!!
I’m not shocked. I don’t know all the specs, but I’ve been seeing the crookedness and the sameness of both sides for a long time.
Well, the one candidate that supports all of this (Paul) is the one that's bashed the most here, all because he wants to bring the troops home. Nevermind that most Americans want the troops to come home too, and that we've been in the Middle East for six years already. None of the issues that you've described above is being addressed by the other GOP candidates. It's the same-old, same-old. Let's eliminate the death tax, ban gay marriage, increase CAFE standards, promote "renewable" energy, etc. At the ABC debate, they asked the candidates why gas was so high & what they'll do to address it. All of the other candidates besides Paul talked about global warming, conservation...the same crap. Only Paul talked about our weak dollar and inflation as to why gas prices are high, and the fact that we're not increasing production domestically (and giving energy corporations huge subsidies). This is why the GOP is in the tailspin it's in. There's no sweeping oratory, no call to action, no telling Americans to sacrifice and be responsible for yourself. There's simply no inspiration. The GOP have completely jettisoned their traditional beliefs and they're going to get punished in the general election because of it.
{{{shock}}}
I blieve we're in an existential war with the jihadis...and I believe those two would persue it most aggressively.
Here's hoping Fred wins in SC...
If The Evil One/The Witch/etc.,etc. gets the nomination, and Satan incarnate is running against her, I will heartily vote for Satan and drag 10 friends, neighbors, coworkers, to the polls to do likewise.
Here's something sobering to think about. Who has fought, still fights, and will continue for the unborn just because we believe it is the right thing to do? Now ask yourselves of those missing ones who would now be of voting age and choose to vote, which party would they most likely go with?
And other things nobody wants to look at.
Another interesting thread, ping
FR has become the home of the Conservative Curmudgeons. We all agree Obama is style over substance. But hey folks, style gets points. Many of you ought to be asking how come your boy can’t get over 10 points in a poll. I read many of the comments on here and just shake my head. We better get a lot more creative in a positive way (not shedding our principles) or we’re going to end up with extremely liberal leadership in this country. It’s too easy to sit around and take potshots. But we’re going to lose. And lose big. —IMHO.
What happened to the thread...

I'm amazed that you'd ever come down to McCain after the way you roasted him in that thread.
Because the two sides are morphing into one. They’re almost indistinguishable from one another now.
Accepting the lesser of two eveils only leaves us with more evils. We’re so far down the road that whetehr Hillary gets in or not shouldn’t be a worry. The GOP was at its best in 1994 when Newt stormed the castle and seized the high ground.
If we get a liberal dem in the WH, we ened to rally teh foolks we’re talking about for solid candidates to Congress and gain take back the fort!
But if we remain complicit in voting for teh lesser of two candidates, we hasten our demise and stilllend up with a bowl of mush. Long live Reagan/Goldwater
They're going to go with McCain or Huckster or Giuliani and then scream that conservatives better vote for them, or else the evil Hillary will get elected. Well, I ain't afraid of Hillary like most posters here are. If the GOP does not start supporting true conservatism and reaching out to libertarians, then they can do so without my vote. And that includes all of the lower races too.
>Because the two sides are morphing into one. Theyre almost indistinguishable from one another now.<
You’re just now noticing that?
Stop being a big baby! Voting and politics has been like that for the past 250 years. GROW UP!
McCain would close Guantanamo. I don’t think he’s as strong on the war as everyone assumes. Rudy is no doubt the biggest sounding hawk of them all. I just think he’s kinda nuts.
Well, it’s FRed all the way with me, but if he and Hunter were to fall off the face of the Earth and there were no choices but these four RINOs or Hillary, and all four are totally unreliable on all other issues, guess I’d have to go with the strongest military national defense, pro-life guy. Other than that, all RINOs look alike to me.
(Youre just now noticing that?)
BTW, I didn’t mean anything bad when I said that.
