The question was posed to me last night, if the only two conservatives in the race were to drop out, leaving the hapless RINOs Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee and McCain to ward off the Evil Witch of the East then, Jim, what do we do?
Well, I think four issues that most of us conservatives will agree on that are at the top or near the top of our priority lists are National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life should be considered. We can argue all day long on whether or not these guys are constitutionally minded, small government fiscal conservatives, and I don't believe any of them are, but we'll leave that for another day. Let's concentrate on National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life.
Well, I can see right off that that rules out Rudy, the draft dodging, gun grabbing, sanctuary city abortionist. At least the other three claim to be pro-life, although Romney has been a pro-choice abortionist for all of his elected history until he decided to run for president. I think Romney's pro choice, big government nanny state (RomneyCare) record gives him two big black eyes and should knock him out of any further consideration. That leaves Huckabee and McCain.
Now, all four of these guys are terrible on border security even though they're all claiming now to be border hawks. McCain led the charge for amnesty and the rest fell in line like dutiful RINO troopers. Can't really make a distinction among these guys on the border issue. All fail, though I think most conservatives would rank McCain at or near the bottom.
Guns. Rudy's definitely out. McCain's out. Romney's not much better. Guess Huckabee the big duck hunter outshoots the others in this category.
Rudy fails in all categories, McCain and Romney fail on guns, and all fail on borders. So I guess Huckabee has more to offer over the others at this point as he is at least pro-life and pro-gun.
Now comes national defense. Sorry, but I can't see the draft dodging, gun grabbing, gay loving, cross-dressing, illegal alien pandering abortion activist Rudy Giuliani as a very appealing or effective guy to head up our military, even if he did make some rousing anti-terrorist speeches on 9/11. The "gays should be allowed to serve openly in the military" Romney (no military or national security experience that I know of) doesn't give me goosebumps either.
So, again, we're down to Huckabee and McCain. Now you all know that I like Huckabee as he is a likable fellow, and I hate McCain, but wait. If the whole shebang is going to be decided on which of the still standing Republican wannabes should defend America from the terrorists and the surrendering Democrats, I think I'll have to go with McCain over Huckabee. At least McCain served in the military and has a whole lot more military and national security experience while serving on various committees in the senate than does Huckabee. Huckabee has none. And I doubt Huckabee can defeat Hillary. But then, McCain probably won't either, so guess that leaves plan B. Squat down, tuck your head down between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.
Here's praying that the only two all around consistently reliable conservatives hang in there and one of them gets the nod.
Go Hunter!! Go, FRed, GO!!
I do, too. But, I will vote for anyone running on our side against The Obama or The Hillary, the two most likely dem candidates.
I would absolutely go crazy for any combination of Thompson/Hunter.
Shoot ourselves.
OK maybe not that dramatic. But, I think "get blind stinking drunk and find a Prius to piss on" is definately a viable option.
After that, cry a lot and drink a whole lot more.
Come election day I will probably get drunk, hold my nose and vote for McCain, Rudy or Mitt.
Sorry, I will never vote for huck. Just can't do it. He can kiss my "Shiite Republican" Ass. He doesn't respect me, I don't respect him. Just that simple. I despise him.
DRAFT NEWT!!!!!
So far.
I agree... McCain’s the guy of those 4.
Dislike him on a lot of things, but I do think he can clean Hillary’s clock.
Wow. Great post!
Astounding, absolutely astounding.
Well stated, and I completely agree.
Good to see you. I expect after Fred wins SC he’ll be coming down your way. Go see him if you get a chance. We saw him Monday and he really is a strong candidate in person.
Exactly right. We are not making any statement that will help our families and coming generations if we refuse to vote for the BEST candidate come election day. We here are all sensible people, and we know that if we lose to Hillary or another Stalinist, our country will be in big trouble for the next four years and possibly longer. Yes, George W. has not been the best, we have been disappointed with some things he has done or advocated. But he hasn’t tried to change our country into a Godless society (quite the opposite he has openly proclaimed his faith) and he hasn’t tried to force BIG GOVERNMENT into every area of our lives, and these are two things that the Liberals have been working towards for years.
I think we got the message back in 2006, that conservatives aren’t happy with the False Republicans in Congress, and that’s why some of them didn’t vote for the False Republican candidates. But now we are suffering from the result of that. We have a liberal Democrat-run Congress that is disgraceful in the actions of most of its liberal members and their False Republican conspirators. That we managed to win the Anti-Amnesty fight this past summer is a miracle. But we will definitely lose that fight and more, if we allow a Liberal to get back in OUR WHITE HOUSE.
Please, I beg you who are of the mindset now, that if presented with a sad choice between McCain or Huckabee and Clinton or one of the other liberals, you will not choose to opt-out of the voting process. (If we can get our acts together during the primaries and vote for the Right candidate then, we will not have to face that awful situation, though.)
Agreed. The GOP situation is dire. I think the question really is, does the GOP want to go down with a conservative candidate, setting the cause back years, or go down with a liberal candidate, and set up a rallying cry for 2012?
Not only that; the opposite of "increment" is "excrement".
NO they can't be trusted.
A RINO is unpalatable, but but still far better than a raging Stalinist.
Best idea I've heard in awhile.
I tend to agree. Amnesty would effect all the other issues we are talking about. The war on terror, spending, life, taxes. If you support a compassionate conservative(Giuliani, Huckabee, MCCAIN), you are welcoming Democrat rule for decades to come because they will have a bloated illegal immigrant electorate.
We have had RINOS of one degree or another since Reagan heading the ticket. I’ll vote for any of them except Rudy, due to his unashamed support of “legalized” child murder.
I’ll hold my nose for a lot; but the life question is the one I cannot bend on.
Good post. I am feeling a little panicky. But I think there are some good reasons for it. Conservatives are the ones that always seem to have to compromise. We have to be reasonable.
I can PROBABLY hold my nose and vote for Romney. Same with Rudy.
With McCain and the Huckster, there’s just no way I’ll EVER vote for either of these two. I’ll just stay home (along with millions of others) and let the Dems have it.
Worse? How about Chief Justice William J. Clinton? ...magritte
