McCain's NH victory was the best news for Giuliani's wacko strategy of hiding in the dugout until the final innings....the Republican nom remains completely up for grabs and probably will remain so for several more weeks. If McCain is the nominal front-runner, the Palmetto State - where voters have very long memories and carry very long grudges - will rise up and destroy him on illegal immigration. It is altogether possible that a sure conservative like Fred Thompson wins SC, further flattening the field. And a flattened field heading into Florida is the only way Giuliani can hope his strange strategy will pay off.

Excellent point-----the Feds took over the investigation, the security and the cleanup. Rudy was just the photo-op guy....and a consummate opportunist.
Before 9/11 he was about to be tossed out by New Yorkers sickened by his personal life--his public humiliation of his wife, dumping her at a press conference.
Parading his mistress around at Mayoral events---attempting to divide the Mayoral mansion in half to move her in with no regard for this moral atrocity on his children.
Later we learned Rudy was porking his mistress on the taxpayer's dime and hiding the theft of services in obscure city agencies----then lying about it.
Rudy's contempt for his family (and for family values) was revealed when he did not even attend his own son's graduation.
Copcrook---that's mobbed-up Bernie Kerik.
Kerik--an admitted felon, is Rooty's former bodyguard, driver, Police Commissioner, failed Homeland appointee, and business partner (in that order).
Kerik is Rooty's obedient yes-man----the guy who okayed a seven-man NYPD security detail for married Rooty's mistress (and reduced Rooty's wife and childrens' security).
Wadda ya wanna bet that pardon pen of Rooty's would be working overtime to exonerate admitted felon Kerik and put him in the Homeland job, with all Rooty's businesses flourishing---Rooty wants Kerik in the Homeland job looking over FBI files, and making decisions that profit Rooty's global businesses.
================================================
FYI--REFERENCE Bernard B. Kerik: Baghdad City Cop
The Wall Street Journal, September 28, 2003
Kerik's shoddy performance training Iraqi police has been mentioned elsewhere. Kerik was supposed to be in Iraq to help train the police force. Kerik stayed for two months, and one day Kerik just up and left.
SUMMATION Kerik's irresponsiblity in Baghdad when he was supposed to train Iraqui police was one of the reasons the US had so much trouble with the initial police training program, because Kerik arrived, didn't do anything and then went out to the airport and left. (Turmoil in the Mideast continues. Hundreds of billions were spent. Lives were lost. Thanks, Rooty and Bernie.)
“Porking his mistress on the taxpayers’ dime,
Secrecy about his global business dealings that will get a federal bonanza,
Maybe pardonning his pal Kerik—an admitted felon; Kerik is Rooty’s former bodyguard, driver, Police Commissioner, failed Homeland appointee, and business partner (in that order)
What else is he hiding under his cape? “
Afraid to ask : )
Good points!
"Didnt Rudy flake out of a contest with the Hilldebeast once before?"
As much as I detest Rudy, I'd have to say that getting diagnosed with cancer isn't quite the same as flaking out of a contest.
You're right - he didn't "flake out," he ran away with his tail between his legs.
At first, Rudy and his doctors made a big deal about how his treatment wouldn't affect the campaign. Then, when the polls started coming in, Rudy suddenly backs away and pulls out of the race (leaving the state GOP high and dry).
I don't believe that his illness caused him to miss a single day's work as Mayor. "Medical reasons" ranks right up there with "spend time with my family" as press-conference excuses for dropping out of the race.
Under his cape? Oh, dear, that does seem ominous-—LOL.
Thanks for the clarification. I must admit that I wasn't following the race that closely. I had missed that part of the story. I thought he had quickly dropped out after his diagnosis.
