Do we really need this agency?

They must be downing it by the truckload because I’ve yet to find any cough syrup that has done anything to kick my two months of coughing much less give me any kind of buzz.

That's because the Gov't takes away all the good drugs becuase someone might be having fun somewhere and it's their job to stop it immediately. ;-)

Creating crises to have an excuse for existing.

There's probably a flint lock musket standardization administration floating around DC.

I meant to add, because no agency the government creates ever goes away.

“They must be downing it by the truckload because I’ve yet to find any cough syrup that has done anything to kick my two months of coughing much less give me any kind of buzz.”

They are abusing DXM, Dextromethorphan, which is in some cough medicines, such as Robitussin DM.

The entire bottle is drank and it has a disassociative effect.

It’s been around forever - known as “robo”

I don’t think we need more laws or regulations. If kids want to get high, they will. The trick is to teach them not to - not to make everyone elses life miserable for the chiiiiildren.

Gee, once again, life imitates the Simpsons!

(I have not seen many episodes, but the "Flaming Moe" mixed drink uses grape cough syrup as the secret ingredient.)

Even if they take away the OTC meds kids will just turn to something else — sniffing glue, paint thinner, etc.

The only solution is to help kids get a desire to do something with their lives. That’s the real anti-drug.

But there will always be people who want to get high no matter what the consequences. You can’t make someone overcome an addiction, it takes alot of work on their part. I’ve seen family members struggling with it and it’s more complex than just keeping them away from certain substances.

Kids have gotten away from *street drugs* and migrated to prescription because they feel they are safer.

I have customers(pharmacies) who have displayed signs saying, “We don’t carry such and such drugs anymore” due to the constant break ins.

Ugh. I couldn't stand cough syrup as a kid. I couldn't even fathom downing an entire bottle.

Nutmeg, in high doses is as good as LSD. If they want it, they will find it.

I better stock up on nutmeg for my egg nog next year. Soon I’ll have to show ID for it. Geez.

We caught our son with two bottles of cough syrup last year when he was sixteen. Then a few weeks later it was orange extract. He and his “friends” were not concerned about the high cost at all, It was just that it was available over the counter to sixteen year olds!

“Nutmeg, in high doses is as good as LSD. If they want it, they will find it.”

Nutmeg is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor and weak hallucinogen.

The side effects are VERY unpleasant.

It’s nowhere as “good as lsd.”

Oops did I just say that out loud? ;)

A specific type of Corciden is popular for that reason. Its a pill and unlike other cough pills doesn’t contain guifinefasin, an expectorant, which makes you barf if you take enough pills for a psychoactive effect - so I have read.

Codeine would help your cough very nicely.

But you're not responsible enough to use it.

Get some of those little bottles (liket they have on airlines) of whiskey. Pour in glass, fill little bottle with water, add to glass, add 1tsp honey and a squirt of lemon juice. Warm in microwave. Drink. It really works (I don't like whiskey but this doesn't taste all that bad)

I don't even keep cough syrup on hand any more - it is useless.
