Eek. Isnt 7.0 + where you get a tsumani? It depends on the slip direction of the fault. A lateral slip fault, like the San Andreas, is unlikely to cause a Tsunami. A dip slip fault, i.e. up and down relative motion, will cause a Tsunami if it occurs under water.

"Holy cow, I have friends in WA state, I wonder if they felt it there..."Spent most of the day puttering in my garage here in the Seattle area, and I felt nothing.

Why, oh why can’t we control these earthquakes? Could tectonic plate movements be caused by man? Large cities on the West Coast may be contributing to their own demise? Maybe Al Gore can cash in on this new fear. /s

There was also a 6.1 in Canada north of Seattle I believe at 2 AM last night. I wonder if anyone in Seattle felt either one. Either way, all those southern California folks that moved up to that area must be a little trepidacious.

I’m near Seattle. I didn’t feel anything, but Oregon is pretty far away from here.
