A Jerusalem square will be symbolically dedicated to Jonathan Pollard ahead of President Bush's visit to Israel.
Mina Fenton, a Jerusalem city councilwoman, announced this week that the capital's Paris Square will be symbolically renamed "Pollard Square" in a ceremony on Jan. 7, two days before George W. Bush begins his first visit as U.S. president to Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
The move is meant to help lobby Bush to pardon Pollard, a former U.S. Navy analyst who is serving a life prison sentence for spying for Israel. Bush leaves office in 2009.
Paris Square is located between the U.S. Consulate in west Jerusalem and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's official residence. Fenton said there are no plans to formally change the square's name.
On Monday, the Knesset State Control Committee decided to ask State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss to prepare a confidential special report on Israeli government efforts to secure the release of Johnathon Pollard.
Successive U.S. administrations have refused to grant clemency to Pollard, who is considered a Jewish hero by many Israelis.
Just warms my heart. /s
Life in prison for Pollard is a travesty... considering that hundreds of US senators, congressmen, politicians and officials (mostly Democrats), not to mention terrorist front groups like CAIR are commiting treason continuosly since decades and get a pass for aiding our ENEMIES, unlike Pollard who spied for Israel at a time of highest peril.
Lock up the Clintons, Murtha, Kennedy, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the traitors... then we can speak about Pollard.
So the Clintons’ deals with China, the Carter sell-out of Panama and Iran, the Kennedy co-op with the KGB, the Murtha-Pelosi-Reid backstabbing of our troops and a terrorist front group named CAIR aiding and abetting our deadly enemies, just to name a few, don’t warrant trial and imprisonment!?
The “clients” of those mentioned above, aren’t our states either... and unlike Israel are our enemies.
Two or three or even dozens of wrongs by others do NOT excuse the wrong of another, even if the wrong was done under the guise of friendship. That is how we ended up with the ideology of liberalism.
Now as a Christian, it is certainly strange to find the priority of Jerusalem to name any part of it after a convicted criminal.
If you talk to anyone who has worked in U.S. intelligence you'll find out that Israel today is no more trustworthy than the Soviet Union was at the height of the Cold War. So anyone who thinks this Pollard guy should be pardoned by the U.S. -- and by a Republican president, no less -- is either naive or stoned.
This has always been the case. No one trusts the other, absolutely. Even the British have limits to how far the alliance can be stretched to.
And this is a good thing. Don't forget, Israel is no posterboy of morality; that country has sold sensitive American technology to China, including plans for the co-developed Lavi fighter plane, and almost sold the Phalcon AWACS. I can't exactly blame Israel; they were looking after their interests.
In realpolitik, trust is of poor value, no matter how much jingoism is added to the mix. Overall, parallel interests matter more, and this in itself is enough for Israel and America to value each other's common interests.
Pollard probably has a better chance for a pardon than those two Border Patrol agents do.
Think they’ll ever name a square for the casualties on the USS Liberty??
There's no need to "speak about" him.
Any jackass, foreign or domestic, who supports that POS Pollard destroys his own credibility.
Now: You want to see Clinton(s), Murtha, et al. prosecuted?
Go for it. Make your case. I'll probably agree with you.
But don't go making excuses for traitors.
All this talk about what a criminal Pollard is rings hollow as the American intelligence community speaks almost rhapsodically about some woman named Prouty who worked for the CIA/FBI? and was actually a spy for Hizbollah.
With the reaction of the intelligence community towards Prouty as constrasted with Pollard, there will be no guilt from this quarter!
At 30 kft, over the Atlantic.
Without a parachute.
Bye bye, spy.
The amount of money this nation has shipped over to that tiny bit of real estate makes it the most expensive in the world. And in case you have never learned money does NOT buy friends.
You might tell this to the Saudis and the other Petro-Arabs...
Now who put the Saudis and the other Petro cartel, (OH and the new oil cartel is NOT Arab) in their positions? How much drilling is allowed in this nation? How about we start where the problem is and take care of ourselves instead of pointing fingers at others. Now are the Saudis and other Petro cartel paying offffffff American politicians to stop oil drilling, exploration and new refineries????
Yes, we should start drilling our own oil and reduce the influence of the Saudis. I have no special insider knowledge on whether the Arabs are bribing to keep us hooked up to their oil, but the Arab lobbyist influence IS way too strong... and decidedly more dangerous to us than the Israelis.
I can’t think of any other (significant) reason why (foremostly) the State Department is so intensely backing the Palestinians and the Arabs in their quest to reduce Israel bit by bit.
Indeed Olmert and the rest of the liberal Israeli “elite” are also to blame, but the irrationally intense support of this Adminisitration for the terrorist Palestinians can’t be easily excused by that.
Whatever has become of “either you are with us or with the terrorists”. Supporting Fatah/Abbas/”Palestine” is picking the wrong side.
‘zackly.
