I see that he was involved in the Waal crossing. That was a particularly wasteful operation. They went in broad daylight, instead of waiting until dark. And then, as soon as they secured the crossing, the British armor parked for the night. So there would have been no delay in the operation if the crossing had been postponed until night, with the armor rolling out the next morning.
