Mitt Romney is facing an unexpected challenge in Iowa from rival Mike Huckabee, who has enjoyed a groundswell of support from religious voters, particularly evangelical Christians wary of the clean-cut former Massachusetts governor because of his Mormon religion.
The common worry among evangelicals is that if Romney were to capture the White House, his presidency would give legitimacy to a religion they believe is a cult. Since the LDS church places heavy emphasis on proselytizing -- there are 53,000 LDS missionaries worldwide -- many mainstream Christians are afraid that Mormon recruiting efforts would increase and that LDS membership rolls would swell.

THE ONLY PROBLEM with those fears is that they don't add up. Evangelicals may be surprised to learn that the growth of church membership in Massachusetts slowed substantially during Romney's tenure as governor. In fact, one could make the absurdly simplistic argument that Romney was bad for Mormonism.

ONE WAY TO GAUGE what might happen under a President Romney would be to look at what happened during the period of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Held in Salt Lake City, they were dubbed the "Mormon Olympics."

The LDS church is likely to continue its current modest-but-impressive growth whether or not Romney wins the White House. Perhaps the only real worry for evangelicals is that, if elected, the former Massachusetts governor will demonstrate to Americans that Mormons don't have horns.

Excellent, thanks. Now, you’ve included Baptists and Southern Baptists in your list. I earlier referenced the Westboro Baptist Church (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church). You responded that they are “false prophets” and a “cult.” Now, I understand that they are not recognized as part of any larger convention or organization, but they self-identify as Baptists.
What I’m interested to know is why you consider Westboro Baptist Church to be a cult?

I don’t care to refute it. I’m not interested in attacking those denominations, and I think that they are all composed of good Christians. I’m just trying to understand your viewpoint.

They call themselves Baptists and are denounced by the Baptists as a cult. What you say is true about them. The church is made up of strictly family members and no outsiders. The main figure is their father arch-heretic Fred Phelps who is like their Joseph Smith. They are deluded by similar doctrines about themselves being a restored superior Church as you guys do. The same heresy but they lack the size, organization and polish that you guys do.

Interesting. So, is being denounced by the Baptists as a cult your sole criteria as to which sects are cults and which are not?
There is no need to present rationale that has been archived and documented ad-nauseum. There are hundreds and thousands of documents that have proven the facts of Mormon heresy and its cult status. There are many witnesses of former members of your church who have labeled it a cult and heretical movement. The evidence is overwhelming against you and you are outlaws. We are not here to jest with you but to tell you to repent or perish.

Though Mr. Romney is part of a non-Christian
religion known for their good, honest, caring
people, it is apparent from this thread that
Mormons aren’t interested in YOU unless you
are interested in adding credits to their go

You don’t pay attention to 2 Peter 2 because you renounce the Bible and undermine its absolute authority in matters of the faith. You use double-speak.
