Presidential candidate Fred Thompson returns to the Upstate

Link only allowed due to copyright complaints

The view from inside the Palmetto State

After a couple days campaigning in South Carolina there is good news to report. Out of the several hundred Upstate homes we visited, Fred Thompson is the most popular candidate. In fact, among decided voters Fred is more popular than all the other candidates combined. That’s the good news. The bad news is that there are as many undecided voters as decided ones.

Here’s how the view looks from the ground in this corner of South Carolina: Fred Thompson has a good lead over Mike Huckabee, who is closely followed by John McCain. Interestingly, there wasn’t a single Mitt Romney suporter–not one–among all the homes we visited. It’s just a single piece of anecdotal data, but it does point to the notion that endorsements mean less and less since Romney has the Greenville establishment solidly behind him. U.S. Senator Jim Demint, who lives here, and Bob Taylor, dean of Bob Jones University, have both endorsed the Massachusetts Governor, but to no avail. Less surprisingly, Rudy Giuliani is also without apparent supporters here.

Overall, South Carolina looks good for Fred. Unfortunately, he doesnt’ appear to be up on the air yet. However, South Carolina, unlike Iowa and New Hampshire hasn’t yet been supersaturated with political advertising, so there is room for him still to join the advertising fray.

Here’s the bottom line. Fred has a real shot at winning South Carolina. In fact, right now he is in the lead in the Upstate, which is usually a bellwether for the rest of the Palmetto State. But he needs the help of Fredheads from all over the Nation. I drove six hours from Nashville to get here. I’m coming back next weekend too. If you live within driving distance of South Carolina your help on the ground would be invaluable. Come here any time in the next twelve days to help get the word out to undecided South Carolinians. Email me offline (Bob AT BobKrumm DOT com) and I will put you in contact with Fred’s South Carolina team. It’s really easy to help.

If you live outside of the area, there are two ways to help. One is to make phone calls for Fred. Again, email me and I’ll link you up with someone who can get you a phone list.

The other way to help is financially. Depending on when you air it, a tv ad can cost as little as $50, so even small donations go a long way. If you support Fred and his conservative vision for America, donate here. Especially if you have never donated to a candidate before, now is the time and South Carolina is the place where you can really make a difference.

'Is it Fred Thompson Time Yet?'

By JB Williams on Jan 8, 08

(This is an excerpt)

For Conservatives, the race begins in South Carolina

No conservative was ever going to win Iowa or New Hampshire, although New Hampshire will identify the most conservative Republican in the race. He will place last in New Hampshire.

So the focus for conservatives begins in South Carolina. As the race moves south and the overcrowded field of unlikely contenders thins down to the five who could actually win the nomination, Republicans will get a closer look at their five primary contenders and it is now Thompson’s time to shine.

Only five have a chance of becoming the RNC nominee. Don’t be angry with me, it’s a mathematical reality. The performing seal variety of debates is over and substance will begin to trump style.

Mitt is the richest and prettiest Republican candidate. But he isn’t able to carry the northeast, where he should be strongest. That’s a problem…

Rudy is the quickest on the snappy come back. But outside of New York or California, he’s not scoring well, even in the northeast where he too should be strongest. The most liberal Republican in the race won’t do well in the conservative south or the wild west.

McCain will always be the Vietnam hero, but he is headed for a repeat of 2000 when his success ended in New Hampshire. McCain-Feingold and Immigration Reform will block him everywhere but the northeast.

Pastor Mike will always be the affable guitar picking nice guy from Arkansas. But even evangelicals will begin to look past that boyish smile and southern Baptist humor, towards actual qualifications to lead the free world during a time of international turbulence and national threat. Mike’s not ready for the big show. His repeated stumbles on foreign policy prove it.

The Only Traditional Conservative in the Race

More than a year ago, JB readers knew something that others are just now coming to learn. As conservative media giants Rush and David Limbaugh recently pointed out, “Fred Thompson is the only true conservative in the race.”

As a result, 67.6% of JB regular readers have chosen Fred Thompson over all other candidates as the right Republican to lead the party and the nation into a new era of conservative values and principled policies.

The question is this… Will moderate Republicans follow the lead of the conservative core of the GOP for a change, or continue to insist that core conservatives once again ignore their conservative principles and line up behind another Republican too compassionate towards leftist compromises?

It’s Fred Thompson Time

I don’t endorse candidates and frankly, my endorsement wouldn’t mean anything to anyone even if I did. But Fred is the only candidate I can support in the 2008 race.

Clearly, the time has come for all those who asked Fred to run, to take a stand beside Fred and make it possible for him to answer that call to lead.

It’s time for all Thompson supporters to dig deep and put their money where their mouth has been for months! Invest in the future of the conservative movement, or forever hold your tongue regarding the outcome of the 2008 election and what follows.

He wanted to place third in Iowa and he did. The most conservative candidate was always going to finish last in New Hampshire. But the most conservative candidate should finish first in South Carolina and Florida. With adequate funding, I believe he will.

It’s time for Thompson supporters to step up

The leftist MSM won’t help and neither will the RINOs atop the RNC power structure. If Republicans want the most qualified conservative in the race, it’s Fred Thompson.

All four of the other candidates are counting on liberal (aka moderate) voters to help them defeat the Democrat in November. Thompson is the only Republican candidate who is not pandering for liberal voters. Instead, Thompson is counting on the conservatives who drafted him, to fight for conservative values and a truly conservative agenda.

You asked him to run - now he’s asking for your help!

Do it now, before South Carolina, when it really counts! www.Fred08.com

Sad to say but that is very possible. The good thing is the damage he will do will be mainly to himself.

Could you post this challenge on your blog, please?

I'm issuing a challenge to all FRedHeads who are not maxed out to send another $10.00 to Fred today. (More if you can.)

The founders of this country pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to the cause of freedom. Is $10.00 too much to ask to sustain it?

I'm dubbing this the Fred Instead campaign.

I know there are many more things we can fore-go for one day or one week and donate that amount to Fred Instead! The future of the country hangs in the balance. What small sacrifice will you make for the cause of freedom?

Done and done! Thanks for the reminder, jellybean, that even an additional $10-$15 (and/or a donation of time!) can help.

I would donate the maximum, all in one shot, if I could. But this is a great example of one of my favorite quotes from Edmund Burke: “Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.”

Go Thompson!

Just love that quote, and it is so very true. Whatever someone can give is great, and if it isn’t a money donation to Fred, it is good just to spread the word to friends, family, and strangers. I wear my Fred button wherever I go to get folks to say someting about it. Also donating some time to help his campaign when Fred is in one’s state is very helpful. I’m ready to go to work here in Florida when the time comes. Until then, I help with donations, even if they are small ones. GO FRED!
