Huckabee's Counterproductive Sweet Talk
Real CLear Politics ^ | January 07, 2008 | By Dick Armey

Posted on 01/07/2008 6:26:41 PM PST by Terrence DoGood

Mike Huckabee abandoned conservative governance long ago. As governor of Arkansas from 1996-2007, his record on economic issues was long and dismal. In the current campaign, he supports expensive, restrictive energy legislation, a misguided new national sales tax, and nanny-state notions like a federal smoking ban.

If he’s a lib (like Romney, McCain and Rudy) I’ll pick him over them because I know he’s at least a social conservative.

Economic conservatives certainly have a limited choice. We’ve Fred or... Well, we’ve just Fred, and we’re being told to get to the back of the bus again. We’re being told he can’t be elected because he’s old, lazy, not wanting it enough. We’re being told we have to support someone else, when everyone else is ignoring the economic conservative.

You’d think, somewhere along the line, we’d get payback for biting our tongues. Instead, we’re told that only a social conservative can bring about victory, or a pair of northwest liberals. It’s a sad day when John McCain starts looking attractive again.

And this feel good conservatism is an offshoot, I think, of the feel-good, shallow religion that hucksters are pushing in megachurches like Joel Osteen’s. The moronic evangelicals who are backing Huckabee are the same types that you see in massive numbers waving their hands in the air in some kind of swooning religious fervor which is usually accompanied by the mesmerizing, hynotic beat of Christian rave music. They act and vote like mind-numbed robots. They should not be allowed to take over the Republican party.

There is no such thing. LOL, Huckster is a die in the wool liberal and should be running a ticket with hillary, hell they look like twins.

The Huckester is an amnesty guy.
also had the Mexican gov. build a consulate in Ark. costing them $1.00

Loves big taxes.

I am a social conservative and the only way we can have that is first to win the war against the IslamOfascist
and stop the illegals.

The Huckester has no background or experience in Military, and National Security.

If the enemy wins, there isn’t any further American way of life. Christians and Jews won’t exist.

My choice is who ever is strongest of the 3 legged conservative stool and who would be the best candidate, which means Hucksterbee comes in last.

No, Huckabee is no conservative, social or nonsocial. His record on illegal aliens is outrageous. No conservative of any kind would go along with amnesty and sell out this country. His pardon of violent criminals is another strike against him. Compared to him, Romney looks relatively good.

McCain is unstable - scary to have him serve as POTUS even if he didn't conspire with Kennedy to push amnesty. He has a long list of left wing agenda. Rudy has too much baggage and his stand on abortion and illegal aliens would drive away a large segment of voters.

A lib is a lib. At least Romney admits is earlier flaws and then explains his stances TODAY and he has a clear grasp of the issues. and can articulate them from a conservative perspective. The Huck wants to close Gitmo and bring the bad guys to Leavenworth, bashes corporations ala John Edwards amd even tries to explain why it was a good idea to give in-state tuition to illegal aliens.

We can all evolve. Heck I was a lib 20 years ago! What offends me is he’s dishonest about it and he’s not conservative on any issue except the 2nd Amendment. Did you watch the debate last night? The guy is in way over his head and would get his “clock-cleaned” by a neophyte like Obama.

McCain vs. Obama = old vs. young-similar to Hillary vs. Obama. I’m not sure that would work out too well for us.

You have just hit the nail right on the head.

They are suckering a bunch of Christians that are to lazy to learn what Bible Doctrine says and let the spiritual hucksters lead them around by their noses. Their application and misuse of Scripture is mind boggling.

Especially when McCain has Wilford Brimley on the bus with him. Let’s see Wilford Brimley, selling diabetic supplies, versus Obama’s Oprah selling endless self-improvement. Sure does show a huge contrast.

Ok so I guess you would vote for Harry Reid over Romney, McCain and Rudy also right? At least Reid is Pro-Life right?

If anything, a pro-choice Rudy (who appoints conservative judges) will have less of an impact on policy than a tax and spend, give peace a chance, close Gitmo liberal like Huckafraud.

My top choice is Fred, but I would vote for Rudy long before I would vote for Huckabee.

I say AMEN to that. They have almost totally taken control of the TEXAS GOP. You should see some of our platform. OY VEY!! I was a delegate to our last senatorial convention and this preacher took up the whole time with his issues.

Turned me off big time.

It would be a disaster. I can imagine MSM comparing and spinning Obama’s “happy marriage and classy wife” to McCain’s “adultery and his present wife embezzling money for drugs” or something like that. They would post the likable Obama against the angry and nasty McCain. They would emphasize Obama’s calmness to McCain’s loss of control and draw scary scenarios of McCain off his meds pulling a horrific stunt. They would bait McCain to lose his cool - not hard to do - and then point out that the country had to be saved from this lunatic.

Rush said today:
“My question for you evangelicals is this. If you’re looking for a real conservative, why are you supporting Huckabee? He’s completely discredited himself. What about Fred Thompson? If you’re looking for a real conservative. Huckabee is constantly engaging in class warfare against the producers. This laid-off line, it’s an attack on Romney, but it’s an attack on producers. It’s an attack on employers. It’s pure populism. He does oppose school choice! You don’t get the NEA endorsement in New Hampshire by supporting school choice.”

GO FRED!

I am for Fred. I have been since the beginning.

But IF he drops out it and the choice is between Rudy, Mitt, John or Mike - I will have to pick Mike Huckabee.
