Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won the first Republican primary of the 2008 election last week, but many top conservatives are not happy, with some calling him a "christian socialist" and others a "Republican Jimmy Carter."

Pastoral ability is a plus. Pastors must be masters of art of persuasion as opposed to prosecutors who must be masters of the art of compulsion.
Be careful of offering higher thought in FR, during election season.
Fools are less likely invest campaign contributions to candiates who will be a non-starters in the primaries next time around.
Huckabee is not my first choice. But I think the potential for him to galvanize the efforts of the pro-life movement can reap the greatest dividends in November.
We all have a preferred candidate. We should all agree to back whoever gets the nomination and refrain from destructive criticisms, while making legitimate differences known. Any one of these men will be far better than Obama, Edwards, or Clinton, including Rudy or Huck.
If a confession of Christ’s salvation is not enough to get a christian to vote for Romney, then Christianity is in trouble and so is salvation, many evangelicals are working for many candidates, even Robertson is working for Giuliani.
Yes, many have gravitated to Huck, this is a temporary phenomena, that will not serve the party well in November. We must appeal to all, independents included.
Your sound bite attack on Mitt as a flip-flopper is today’s media attack line, as the Mormon issue is now out of favor, being exposed as the product of prejudicial minds. Mitt has become more conservative, that is the evolution of the human psyche. Older and wiser, and I bet, that on reflection, you will find a way to be more useful in our fight against the Dems than to put out negative talking points on our fine candidates. The polls are now open, and they are telling us all we need to know.
Stop the circular firing squad. It turns off everyone.
Three Republicans I could never support - Huckabee/Rudy/crazy McCain.
Funny how ROMNEY won the Wyoming Primary and nobody has heard about it, huh? Not a big deal like Iowa, I guess.
Ok, I meant “caucus”. But if McLame wins tomorrow, we’ll have him, Huckster, and Romney as the three winners of the first three states- with Romney the only top-two finisher in all three. Something to ponder as you listen to the media spinning tomorrow’s results.
Rush is a part of the entrenched Republican establishment that the American people are (sadly) currently rebelling against.
Huck changes his stand on taxes (now backing FAIR Tax), and Rush says “he is not a conservative.” Mitt changes his stand on abortion and gay marriage, and “he is a conservative.” You can’t have it both ways. (Although his duplicity DOES call into question his loyalty to social conservatism as equal to fiscal conservatism!)
The only TRUE, 100% conservatives running are Fred and Duncan Hunter. And both will be through in twelve days after South Carolina. (Ron Paul is watching for space aliens with Kucinich.)
That leaves Mitt, Rudy, McCain, and Huck.
Bill O’Reilly just said “Mitt and Huck are conservatives, Rudy and McCain are not.” I think that is about right.
Which makes Rush — wrong.
Reagan's 11th Commandment! You are true.
Which makes Rush wrong.
OK...let's all pack it up. We have Bill's proclamation with a confirmation.
You make some valid points, but the qualified foreign policy expert seeking the office of president is a rarity. Governors are the closest thing to presidents despite the negative results you point out. And governors are extremely popular candidates if recent elections are any indication.
As for foreign policy, all the voter can rely on is the campaign rhetoric and judgment of the candidate to surround himself with able people. But it will always be a crapshoot for the voter, as even the president cannot control world events.
Conservatism will always win. But we have a bunch of gutless wonders that over analyze personalities instead of what really matters. God save queen Hitlary
There are NO great moderates in all of history. Greatness comes from not being afraid to take a stand. Greatness comes from that core that resides deep within.
I’m a simple farm boy. But I have enough sense to know what parts get rubbed raw when I straddle a barbed wire fence. Our so called republicans (yes ..little “R”) of today have spent so much time on the fence ... they lost any gonads they might have had. That is where I disagree with Rush ... they (Rinos) din’t let Hitlery lock them up in a “testicle lockbox” .. they did it to themselves.
Waike up ameeerikaaa ... stand tall and get a pair.
Was it Monica Lewinsky who said that the last President from Arkansas left a bad taste in her mouth?
Thanks, I was going to make some disparaging remarks about the appearance Huckabee's family like: Huck's wife is not as hot as Fred's and kids darn sure aren't as cute, but instead I had a moment of strange inspiration. :-)
Here is something from God that has been provoking my thoughts for over 24 hours now.
Matthew 18:10
Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
Why did he change his mind? Is it because he already won the office of Governor of the great and most liberal Commonwealth of Gomorrah I mean Massachusetts.
I don’t recall his exact words, but I do recall he did not flip casually. The change was more evolvment than a quick flip.
Typically personal attacks reflect worse on the person targeting them than the person targeted.
I would say that is true.
