As we enter the eighth year of the Bush-Cheney administration, I have belatedly and painfully concluded that the only honorable course for me is to urge the impeachment of the president and the vice president.
After the 1972 presidential election, I stood clear of calls to impeach President Richard M. Nixon for his misconduct during the campaign. I thought that my joining the impeachment effort would be seen as an expression of personal vengeance toward the president who had defeated me.
Today I have made a different choice.
Of course, there seems to be little bipartisan support for impeachment. The political scene is marked by narrow and sometimes superficial partisanship, especially among Republicans, and a lack of courage and statesmanship on the part of too many Democratic politicians. So the chances of a bipartisan impeachment and conviction are not promising.
But what are the facts?
Bush and Cheney are clearly guilty of numerous impeachable offenses. They have repeatedly violated the Constitution. They have transgressed national and international law. They have lied to the American people time after time. Their conduct and their barbaric policies have reduced our beloved country to a historic low in the eyes of people around the world. These are truly "high crimes and misdemeanors," to use the constitutional standard.
From the beginning, the Bush-Cheney team's assumption of power was the product of questionable elections that probably should have been officially challenged -- perhaps even by a congressional investigation.
In a more fundamental sense, American democracy has been derailed throughout the Bush-Cheney regime. The dominant commitment of the administration has been a murderous, illegal, nonsensical war against Iraq. That irresponsible venture has killed almost 4,000 Americans, left many times that number mentally or physically crippled, claimed the lives of an estimated 600,000 Iraqis...

Wasn’t McGovern the candidate that won only ONE state and that wasn’t even his own home state, but the home state of his running mate, Sergeant Shriver (father of Maria).
McGovern - The father of the Democrat’s Super Delegate. Democrats created the super delegates to prevent nutcases like him from getting the nomination again. Even the Democrats think he’s crazy.
I support impeachment for the dereliction of duty to secure the borders of America.
Amnesty, abortion, acid...and "cut & run" foreign policy?
I think an impeachment trial in congress would be great, especially right before an election in which a large portion of congress is up for re-election. If you thought congress was horrible in ‘07...
Even if he was impeached, he still wouldn’t be leaving. It didn’t work with Clinton, why does he think it would work with Bush?
...oh wait, in terms of importance he is:
‘E’s passed on!
This pol is no more! He has ceased to be!
‘E’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker!
‘E’s a stiff!
Bereft of life,
‘e rests in peace!
If you hadn’t nailed ‘im to the perch ‘e’d be pushing up the daisies!
‘Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory!
‘E’s off the twig!
‘E’s kicked the bucket,
‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil,
run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisibile!!
THIS IS AN EX-POLITICIAN!!
“Well thats it, President Bush will never get re-elected now.”
LOL!! The way the RATs carry on, you would think he WAS up for re-election!! The man only has a year left in office. It would take at least that long to get impeachment proceedings going! Sour grapes. You LOST, McGovern!! Get over it!!
“a murderous, illegal, nonsensical war against Iraq.”
Ding, Ding, Ding. Wrong... The WOT is NOT against Iraq. The WOT is a war against Islamofascism, and one front happens to be in Iraq, at this time. There’s another in Afghanistan, and more appear to be cropping up in some African countries, and elsewhere.
McGovern was a joke in his day, and has now graduated to full fledged anachronism.
Ol’ Georgie hasn’t gotten over the 1972 elections. Just another bitter, old Democrat hasbeen.
Which is made even worse by the fact that the administration, while not yet totally embeshed in scandal, still had Watergate hanging over their heads at the time of the Election.
Dear George: We TRIED to tell you - we weren’t called the Silent MAJORITY for nothing....
“LOL!! The way the RATs carry on, you would think he WAS up for re-election!!”
Tell me about it - on the morning after the Hawkeye Cauci, I heard ugly woman liberal in my office on the phone saying “did you SEE how they never mentioned Bush! They never mentioned Bush ONCE!”
Well, no, you crone - HE’S NOT ON THE $%^& BALLOT!
Wow 600,000 Iraqies dead? Where does this bafoon get his numbers? Not to disrespect his service but isn’t hitler who this guy bombed during ww2? If so Hitler never attacked the USA? So wasn’t ww2 in europe an illigal war to Mr Mcgovern?
GOD I can’t stand these people..
George McGovern is crazy.
Wonder what that old McGovernite, Rudy Giuliani, thinks about his man after this insane public display.
600,000 is a George Soros misinformation number.
Its sad how low some will stoop at the end of their life to gain a bit of attention.
Isn’t it amazing?? Bush Derangement Syndrome has a lot of these libs in its clutches and just won’t let go!!
Maybe Rudy will use him as a 'national security advisor'....since the reason Rudy voted for him is because Rudy, like him, opposed the war......lol
