Nearly a dozen members of a police SWAT team in western Colorado punched a hole in the front door and invaded a family's home with guns drawn, demanding that an 11-year-old boy who had had an accidental fall accompany them to the hospital, on the order of Garfield County Magistrate Lain Leoniak. The boy's parents and siblings were thrown to the floor at gunpoint and the parents were handcuffed in the weekend assault, and the boy's father told WND it was all because a paramedic was upset the family preferred to care for their son themselves. Someone, apparently the unidentified paramedic, called police, the sheriff's office and social services, eventually providing Leoniak with a report that generated the magistrate's court order to the sheriff's office for the SWAT team assault on the family's home in a mobile home development outside of Glenwood Springs, the father, Tom Shiflett, told WND.

They usually fall back on soverign immunity anyway. I'll be interested in seeing how the lawsuits against the Durham officials pan out.
“Whatever happened to knocking on the door and serving a warrant?? Regardless this is an amazing abuse of power.”
I agree, even if this was a case of christian scientists 50 years ago, a knock would have sufficed.
Religious freedom was dealt a serious blow when medical science started curing children of things that earlier would have only been dealt with by prayer.
Or so says my Grandad..
Bureaucrats like this sheriff and social worker are a much more immediate danger to America and our liberties than are a few Islamists who have a hard time deciding to spend the night with their wife or their camel.
AMEN!!!
I wonder if the family dog survived...
Joe Smith is vandalizing your property in the performance of his assigned work duties. Joe Smith is Bob Jones' employee. Only Bob has the power to change Joe's work practices. The issue must be addressed with Bob.
The overseas danger is greater than a few terrorists. One could argue that it was wrong to fight the Nazis, the Japanese, and the Communists because this nation had its own abuses, such as segregation and racial discrimination against nonwhites. History showed that proposition to be wrong. The threat from the Islamic world, and behind them, Russia and China, is greater than that of a few terrorists. Since the Cold War era, the nationalists and Islamic extremists have been supplied with weapons and funding from the Soviets. Ultimately, the Islamic radicals are underwritten from Beijing and Moscow. Neither China nor Russia are our friends, and Putin is as much an enemy of this nation and the West as any of his Soviet-era predecessors. China's economy will surpass ours in the near future, and both nations have the resources to serious challenge America's superpower status.
There is no reason that we cannot prune back Federal power and restore states rights and individual liberties while still maintaining a strong presence against our Islamic and Communist enemies. Believing that if we withdraw our military presence, these enemies will become beneficent is a level of unreality greater than Chamberlain had toward Hitler.
Only two problems with that. One is that extremely few government bureaucrats are elected. Look at the federal government 537 out of 19,000,000. The other is that the people who pay the bulk of the taxes are disenfranchised. They may have a vote, but when 1% of the taxpayers pay 36% of the taxes that 1% can scream an holler all day and no one will listen. 85% of the taxes are paid by 25% of the populace. Same thing.
We are uninsured and we are facing lawsuits in CT for outrageous bills. These bills are overpriced seeing as the insurance industry contracts pre-negotiate rates to about 1/3 of the initial bill. The overbilling targets the uninsured in a state-wide attempt to force the uninsured to buy coverage or die (or in our case, leave the state).
My wife goes in for a test that has been verbally quoted at $312. She walks out to a bill the is delivered a week later at $1600.
We moved to Florida and the same thing happened. Three months after the overcharges we received paperwork on a class-action lawsuit against the medical providers. They were being charged with billing the uninsured, amounts that “bear no resemblance to the actual services provided”
Seems to be a nationwide issue all with uninsured as the target.
Deciding to send SWAT was all on the sherif.
This is exactly the sort of thing that is likely to get us killed in a blaze of bullets. Kicking in our front door is hazardous to people’s health.
APD doesn’t just stand for Atlanta Police Department.
