A comment to me (and others, repeated many times) on last night's Iowa live thread by a Huckster supporter:

For me, the *first criteria* is that a candidate is Christian. Thompson has failed that criteria with me. Then after seeing that a candidate is Christian (which would have to be someone other than Thompson), then one can get into the political matters... Regards,

I feel a bit embarrassed by the well-meaning Christians who are blindly jumping on Huckabee’s wagon. It’s no different from the dopey women who vote for Hillary JUST BECAUSE SHE’S A WOMAN. No thought goes into the process, no analysis. Haven’t they learned anything by watching the most famous Christian ex-President, Jimmy Carter??

Thompson was raised old fashioned Stone-Campbell Church of Christ - no instruments, independent, local churches.

Tradition in that church is to remain separate, not to mix politics and religion - some are conscientious objectors. It’s very rare for members to run for political office. He would have been taught to keep the church out of his politics. But it would have informed his core beliefs.
