Redwood City, Calif. (AP) -- A judge on Friday sentenced disgraced political donor Norman Hsu to three years in state prison after rejecting the one-time Democratic rainmaker's bid to throw out a 16-year-old fraud conviction.
Hsu's lawyers had asked Superior Court Judge Stephen Hall to dismiss his 1992 no contest plea, arguing his right to a speedy trial was violated because authorities weren't actively pursuing him during his years as a fugitive. They could easily have arrested Hsu, his lawyers argued, at one of the fundraisers he hosted in California for prominent local politicians.
Hsu also faces federal fraud charges in New York.
His troubles began dogging Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and other big-name Democrats last summer

Imagine the headline if he were a major donor to the Republican presidential candidates.

Hope he’s not expecting a visit or cookies from the Hildabeast. She’s, no doubt, kicked him to the curb.

If ANY Republican candidate was involved in this scandal, it would be front page news in the NYT.

Hsu saw his pardon evaporate last night. The Prosecutor should show him why he should sound like a canary now.

Hsu’s going to prison, which likely means he’s going to die there. As such, I doubt seriously he’ll get the chance. You’d make money starting a pool on what day after he’s taken to jail that he dies.
To: AU72
because authorities weren't actively pursuing him during his years as a fugitiveHow could they keep a straight face making that argument, and why didn't the judge order the lawyers jailed for contempt?

If he gets any cookies from hillary, he’d better not eat them. Maybe he could use them to kill rats and roaches.

No Contest Plea, no presentence report , man, no details on the fraud scheme and where he put the money. Something tells me Hsu has an off shore account with about 3 million bucks and his legal fees in it, from the Shillery Campaign.
Talk about sliding him through the justice system like a greased pig. First they ignore him and then they whisk him away. Nothing like liberal justice.
But then by most accounts, he is lucky to be still alive after his medical episode caused by what? Poisoning?
