Audio & Video: Ticket to the Next Dance By Sean Hackbarth
Fred spoke to supporters after his third-place finish in the Iowa Caucuses.
An old article, re-published in the NH Times Leader:
Thompson: His life has been awash in opportunities, seized with an actor's sense of timing By NANCY BENAC
Fred Thompson: The Quiet Man of 2008 campaign scores an invisible win Mark Tapscott
Let's see now: Fred Thompson started way late, has had a tumultuous staff lineup, spent virtually nothing compared to others like Mitt Romney, was almost unseen in Iowa until three weeks ago, was either ignored or written off by the mainstream media (and many in the Blogosphere) and for the most part depended upon Internet devices like YouTube to get his message out.
Despite it all, Thompson finished third in Iowa, nosing ahead of the revived media darling John McCain , trailing only Multi-millions Mitt and the political pop-bottle rocket from Arkansas. That 17-minute conversation on YouTube earlier this week keyed a gathering recognition detected by Zogby that Thompson has a serious case to make.
And yet, hardly anybody among the talking heads this morning seems to be talking about Thompson. Even with a mediocre showing in New Hampshire next week, Thompson to have positioned himself to make this thing a three-way race heading into February.

Fred will do the debates in NH this weekend and then he'll be here in state on the 8th and he'll be all over meeting the people, getting his message out and letting them know that He's the Consistent Conservative in the race - with the record to prove it. We're looking forward to the debate on the 10th and then primary day on the 19th. Keep the faith - We're gonna' win this!
Am I the only one who is demoralized and horrified right now, not at FRed coming in third, but at what “Republicans” are willing to vote for?
I don’t think I will be a Republican much longer.
Some crucial words are missing from the author's sentence. But I believe he's giving nod to Fred being a factor in SC and February.

I wouldn’t be too depressed over what the Iowa Republicans voted for.
Most of them are moderate Dems. Pro life, gun, gimmie some corn subsidties.
The good news is that Huckabilly, and McLame in NH, have killed off the Willard campaign. Willard will drop out after he loses in Mi.
Fred can finish of Huck and McCain in SC.
As long as Fred stays in until Feb 5th he will win it all!
Rooty is a non factor with zero chance.
I’ve got the delegate count, dates and such for the Republican primaries in an Excel 2007 spreadsheet. If there is interest, I can post it somewhere for download.
We have a very hard road ahead because Fred will not only get no help from the media, he will continue to have to push against them. But he can and conservatism can still win.
I notice that the "fill up the red pickup" online fundraiser has been steadily ticking up donations since the goal was met and there was a surge today. He’s up over 70k from last night.
Never give up. We can’t win if we are not in the game.
Count me in too. All I can do is shake my head.
bttt
What repulses me is the number of Republicans who consider a candidate’s religion rather than his record.
You’re not the only one.
I’m amazed. I am keeping in mind Iowa is not a king-maker- and see clearly who Huckabee appealed to and why.
But I’m worried- our party is a mess. We do NOT have any real leaders- we have politicians running for office. I had hoped with all my heart that Fred would fill the leadership vaccum. He still has time..
We don’t have is a Barak Obama. We have no one who is inspring young people in droves to go out and register and show up and vote in a complicated, chaotic caucus process.
We are awash in finger-pointing at one another- who’s a social conservative, who’s a fiscal conservative, who’s pro-life enough, who’s strong enough on terrorists and illegal immigration and on and on. Meanwhile- the Dems are bringing in NEW and MOTIVATED voters.
We’re in trouble.
Take heart. It's just Iowa. Plus, it's Iowa in a year when the caucus came way too fast, too close to the holidays for people to really pay attention.
Might be tough to stomach these disheveled primaries -- especially Feb. 5 -- and I pray that Fred comes through in the end. But I'd be really disappointed if the RNC doesn't lay down different ground rules for future primaries.
“Am I the only one who is demoralized and horrified right now, not at FRed coming in third, but at what Republicans are willing to vote for?”
I kinda am as well, but populism is, well, popular I guess. I have to believe that Iowa has a bloc of Republicans that will vote for whomever promises them the most “compassion” or something like that. Other than that I chalk it up to media, dirty tricks and short attention spans ;-)
I don’t know how it is your neck of the woods in SC, but when I visited the upstate before Christmas I saw only one Fred sign for every ten or twenty signs from Huckabee, Romney and Paul. The campaign needs to get out there and match those guys in the number of signs.
I saw that there is a Republican primary in Wyoming on the 5th ? whats up with that ? I thought NH was next.
