Gov. Huckabee saying he was a Christian is like another candidate saying he’s a member of the Chamber of Commerce - both suggest where the candidates stand on a large number of issues ...

No it does not. Jesse Jackson is a Christian, does that mean conservatives should support him? Rush was right, Huckabee IS playing identity politics.

I don’t recall any Republican Christian politician using and abusing his religion for political gain as much as Huckabee. It smacks of Bill Clinton’s photo ops walking to church with a Bible in his hand, or photo ops John Kerry going to Mass during the election so all the little old churchgoing Catholic ladies will vote for him notwithstanding his votes on abortion issues. Real Christians shouldn’t use their religion to gain votes, or imply that someone shouldn’t vote for someone else because of their Mormon beliefs.

~”Gov. Huckabee saying he was a Christian is like another candidate saying he’s a member of the Chamber of Commerce - both suggest where the candidates stand on a large number of issues ...”~

That would be what Rush describes as ‘Identity politics.’ It appears that Iowans fell for it.

You’re proving Rush’s point with that statement. Evangelicals ARE lemmings if they vote for a guy based solely on faith and without regard to his actual record!

Huckabee as a Christian is more dangerous than an atheist who is willing to let the Constitution rule. Like Hillary, he has an "inspired" agenda of how things should be, which he will micro-manage just like he did as Governor of Arkansas. I'm scared of his idea of pardoning prisoners, giving hand-outs like tuition assistance to illegals, and thinking that the state can confiscate the income of hard working citizens for special programs, their special pet causes, like universal Pre-K!

This man is dangerous and Iowas have just bought his snake oil!

Jimmey Carter was a also a Christian populist. Heck, Williams Jenning Bryant comes to mind.
However none of these are/were conservative and niether is the Huckster.

Huckabee is a decent guy, but politically he’s a lot closer to William Jennings Bryan than Ronald Reagan.

Yes, saying that he is a Christian does cover a lot of issues, but not necessarily the issues that should be considered in a political election.

For instance, Huckabee’s support of marriage act does not necessarily preclude civil unions. I can see Huckabee interpreting his “do unto others” and forgive the sinner, philosophy to acquiesce to the demand for civil unions.
