I don’t know, my life long Democrat father in law has voted Republican for the last 30 years. He is still bitter about the Carter administration but won’t register Republican.

My parents are the same way. I don't think either has voted for a democrat since Reagan and possibly before, but they remain registered as dems. Party of their parents, etc.

My 70 something year old mother just changed her voter registration last year to Republican. When she got her voters card back in the mail, it had her still registered as Democrat. We had to call and get it corrected. She is now a proud Republican.

"party of their parents"

You got that right. My dear octogenarian parents still think FDR is in the White House. The current crop of Dems stands for everything they are against morally and socially. But they refuse to see the light. According to them, Republicans "are the party fo the rich people". I point out Warren Buffet, George Soros, Hollyweird libs to no effect. They learned their politics seventy years ago, and they won't change. I give credit to your parents for recognizing reality.
