There is no upside or downside. I firmly believe that far less than 1% of the world is capable of truely independent rational thought. Most people are content with internally inconsistant belief systems. Many others think that all opinion is equal. For these people, religion is absolutely necessary. They need to have someone tell them what to think and how to act or they feel lost emotionally....even if requires them to believe in invisible people, ghosts and magic.
“I firmly believe that far less than 1% of the world is capable of truely independent rational thought.”
That’s certainly a rarified air you breath.
1%? That’s an interesting cutoff number. Does it flucuate or is it linear? It sounds like something Spock would say on Star Trek. (Never mind me though, I’m the dependant irrational type.)
Then, with all due respect, it is an unbelievably silly waste of time for you to try to correct all we poor, deluded (happily, willingly deluded) religionists from the fantasies we must have to survive.
If you only have 70 years or so to enjoy before you're worm food, one would have to wonder why you bother.
