Wyoming to Hold Overlooked GOP Caucus Before New Hampshire

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Don’t forget about Wyoming.
It’s been overlooked in the hoopla surrounding Thursday’s Iowa caucuses and next week’s New Hampshire primary, but Wyoming Republicans will caucus Saturday and choose delegates to the national convention in September.
Candidates have paid little attention to the state, though.
Only Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter have passed through since September.
“Yes, there have been some appearances by the candidates in this state that otherwise wouldn’t have occurred this early in the process,” said Jim King, who teaches political science at the University of Wyoming. “But candidates are where the media are — in Iowa and New Hampshire.”
So far, no candidate has announced plans to head west for the state GOP’s county conventions Saturday. An exception could be Hunter, who has been to several of the state’s major cities and held out the possibility of a last-minute visit. His wife spent part of her childhood in Wheatland, in southeast Wyoming.

It was filmed in Canada. That said what a disgrace they used WY in the storyline.

I’m in Wyoming and I’m voting for Thompson - only because I don’t think Hunter has a chance at this point. It is very important to me that that Huckabee, McCain, Romney or Giuliani not get the nomination.
Ron Paul will do well here. I hope he doesn’t run in the general election as an Independent.

Went to wikipedia, Wyoming has 14 delegates while New Hampshire has 12. You would think in this close of a race that at least FoxNews would mention the primaries in Wyoming. I guess laziness and bigotry towards conservative states is more important to the media than a primary that could just as easily determine the primary candidate.

About 14% of Wyoming residents are Mormons, a fact that should help Romney in this state. It also has the highest number of non-church goers of any state not on the East or West Coasts. Last year, the state House of Representatives defeated a bill calling for a 24 hour waiting period before a woman could obtain an abortion. Wyoming is a deeply red state, but the underlying outlook is far more like Barry Goldwater than like Jerry Falwell. This is not good country for Huckabee, though it could be for Thompson and Hunter. As the polar opposite to New York City, Wyoming will be slim pickings for that city's native son, Giuliani. It also will not be particularly good for Paul, because the same Western spirit of Wyoming is also tough on America’s foreign enemies. Remember that John Wayne was neither a quitter nor a pacifist. It is not country that favors compromisers, a fact that does not bode well for McCain.
My guess would be for a possible Thompson pickup, with some chance for Romney as well.

Only Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter have passed through since September. Were are the numerous DBM stories saying how Rudy, Huck and McCain have disrespected the people of Wyoming with their abscence?
Only Fred missing a date in NH matters to the Drive-By's.
To: penowa
If states that go earlier than the date set lose 1/2 their delegates, why are they choosing to lose 1/2 of whatever little bit of clout they might have in naming a nominee? Don't know, but Wyoming still has two more delegates than NH, yet they get no coverage.
To: Kaslin
Wow...hadn’t even heard about this. Strange.

"...but Wyoming still has two more delegates than NH, yet they get no coverage."
That could be why they get no coverage - too conservative to suit the press; probably doesn't have all those Independents voting like NH to make it interesting, unpredictable, and anti-conservative like the press likes. Just guessing... LOL!

How is it possible Wyoming has more delegates than NH? Isn’t Wyoming the least populated state in the US?

How is it possible Wyoming has more delegates than NH? Isnt Wyoming the least populated state in the US?Wyoming probably has a higher number of registered Republicans.
Just a guess.
See my above link. It probably shows why...

Thank you for your vote for Fred. I know Hunter is your first choice but those of us who are still holding out for a conservative nominee sincerely appreciate your support for Fred Thompson.

Here at work we monitor both FOX and CNN. Both are, as I type, babbling on about NH "First Primary."
Not a SINGLE word about Wyoming. But hey, no bias there huh?
