“Man jailed over terrorism charge”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A man in e-mail contact with so-called “lyrical terrorist” Samina Malik has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years after admitting three terror charges.

Al Qaeda-trained Sohail Qureshi, 30, was arrested in October 2006 as he prepared to board a Pakistan flight at Heathrow to fight overseas.

The Old Bailey heard he planned to take military-style equipment on board.

The court heard Qureshi wrote in an email: “Pray that I kill many, brother. Revenge, revenge, revenge.”

After the case a senior investigating officer described Qureshi as a “serious terrorist” who hoped to kill many people.”

International Flight Causes Health Scare At Pearson Airport (Canada)
Tuesday January 8, 2008

An Air Canada flight arriving in Toronto from Israel Tuesday night was the source of a major health scare at Pearson International Airport. According to reports 75 of the 200 people aboard the flight from Tel-Aviv were very ill upon arrival and experiencing serious flu-like symptoms.

Air Canada Flight 85 landed at 7:15pm at Terminal One some of those on board were reportedly placed in immediate quarantine. Airport emergency personnel were covered head to toe in protective gear as they treated passengers, an unsettling sight for other air travellers.

"We had some people in our lineup going into customs that were really concerned," said Andrea Di Bartolomeo, travelling from Tampa Bay, Florida. "Half of them (emergency workers) were wearing masks and half of them weren't, so that's why we were kind of confused." "They actually told us to stay back 100 feet," added Kimberly Stanford, a witness returning from Barbados. "They had everybody in their white suits and everything."

The other 125 passengers aboard the same flight were allowed to go home following a lengthy delay, and the Greater Toronto Transportation Authority did signal an all-clear regarding any public health threat. However, at least three of the 75 ill passengers, all believed to be part of the same tour group, were taken to hospital with unknown symptoms.

There's no word on what tour company they were with, or what their final destination was.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “An attempt to have a Canadian panel stifle Mark Steyn poses a threat to American freedom of speech, the conservative columnist says.

The Canadian author told The Washington Times in a telephone interview that the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) agreeing to investigate a Muslim complaint against him opens a new front on threats to Canadians’ press and religious freedom: speech that originates in the United States.”
