Hispanic leaders say the law is causing widespread fear in the Hispanic community.

A feeble attempt to play the pity-card and gloss over the fact there are likely many in the OK Hispanic community that welcome this crack-down.

As for illegals in OK, well, they should be afraid. Breaking the law finally has some consequences.

Builders say they can't get enough workers and are threatening a lawsuit to try to block the law.

I'll bet there's tons of kids looking to earn money for college, especially at a summer job. I know a lot of kids who would like to earn more than minimum wage, mine included.

Does this mean that legal contractors actually have to pick up a hammer? Do they have to work on your job and not have 10 other jobs going all at the same time? The shame of it all.

Does this mean that contractors have to pay FICA and a prevailing wage? Do they have to have insurance?
Does this mean that these contractors have to obey the laws that honest contractors adhere to?
Heavens forbid that the crooks have to be in competition with law abiding contractors.

And here in OK we are given nearly daily stories about how what a hardship it is..and going to be on people, churches, businesses..etc..etc.

Building is still going pretty well here.

Don't know where you are...but there's a glut of new homes that builder's are choking on around here.

Locally (North Texas), my contractor friends tell me you can't get the least-skilled day laborer to work for less than $11 - $12 an hour, and carpenters with a little skill work at local cabinet shops for up to $20 per hour.

When you are paying "under the table."

$11 is darn cheap.....

One has to wonder what makes you think the illegals work cheap?

Thank you, I have been saying this all along.

I process rental applications, many of them from illegals, so I know what kind of pay they make. (Yes, the applications from illegals are turned down.)

Nothing upsets me more about the media forgetting to use the term ILLEGAL when discussing immigrants. My area has plenty of folks who paid good money in legal fees to get documents. These folks “cut in line” and now the builders/restauranters/general contractors are P.O.’d that states are actually enforcing the law that Feds refuse to do.

And how the cities don’t have the money (or the jail space) to enforce the law.

I say to all of them:

Ohh, Mr. Whiiinnnerrrr.

(or Mrs., as the case may be.)

Cotton farmers eventually adapted and survived the Emancipation Proclamation, I suspect home builders will survive this law.

BINGO!

Because a $10 wage paid to an American leads to matching social security, OSHA compliance, EEOC compliance, etc. etc. etc.

Companies like these, I would just as soon they move offshore, then they could avoid these burdens.
