Des Moines, IA (LifeNews.com) -- At a campaign stop in Iowa, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told an audience that she favors abortion. Clinton meant her comments to come across in the same moderate tone former President Bill Clinton, but the way she phrased her position could come back to haunt her.
Abortion advocates frequently insist they don't support abortions but want to keep them legal as an option for women.
Clinton, like other pro-abortion politicians, has used the "safe, legal and rare" mantra as a way to tone down their stridently pro-abortion views and voting records against bans on partial-birth abortions or tax-funded abortions.
Normally politicians say "abortions should be safe, legal and rare" but don't talk about their own position supporting or opposing them. Clinton changed and went a different direction.
I am in favor of abortion being safe, legal and rare, she said.
As if noticing that she told the audience she favored abortion, she quickly added, I would do everything to make it as rare as possible.
But, MSNBC's Tucker Carlson in November questioned whether that was really the case.
"Has she ever suggested placing any restriction of any kind on abortion, limiting for instance abortion for sex selection? Or any restriction, of any kind. Ever? I must have missed it. Has she?" Tucker asked.
Last month, Clinton largely avoided a question of how abortion is hurting social security. A woman in the audience said abortion is going to make it harder to keep the system afloat.
She simply said she has worked to keep abortion "safe, legal, rare."
The apostates at Sojourners had a debate earlier this year where all the Dem candidates came to talk about their religion. She not only talked about being a Christian, but said her faith saved her marriage back in 1998-1999. Yeah, right.
I’d like to know what Hillary666 has done SPECIFCALLY to make abortion “rare”.
Let me see.........how about.....ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, NOTHING, NADA?!?
As people become parents, they often move to the right, sometimes very sharply so, and generations tend to have values that to some extent oppose those of the previous generation. Some folks already call Generation X "Generation Reagan." Imagine what politics would be like in this country if there were 20 million more of us.
Also, abortion guilt tend to harden some people into political positions they would otherwise grow out of. Some of those sour-pussed 50-somethings we see at these Dem rallies would probably have become conservatives or moderates if they hadn't been party to a murder.
Someone should ask if she and her husband “still” support sticking scissors in the head of a baby as it is leaving the womb.
I don’t recall the Clintons ever setting any limit on any abortion, partial birth abortion or otherwise.
It’s the same liberal empty rhetoric.
Just wait until Bloomberg gets into it. I have never seen a politician more in love with abortion. He told his ex-secretary to "kill" her baby when she announced she was pregnant, because he said he couldn't spare her. He tried to mandate that ALL NYC doctors perform abortions as part of their certification (voted down by legislature). He is probably the closest to Margaret Sanger viewpoint of anyone out there.
montag, I didn't know that about Bloomberg, will have to do some more checking on him. If that is true, it is shocking. I wouldn't be inclined to support him regardless, but somebody I know is pushing him.
Clinton - Tough on Fetuses, Soft on Terrorists
If only her mother was pro-abortion.
Oy, like there's only one reason to reject Hillary or Obama! Don't worry, she'll wise up eventually.
Shocking.
Shoot, abortion worldwide has probably even killed more people than Islam has killed in its 1400-year existence.
Considering how much lower the populations were for most of Islam's existence, and how much less efficient their killing tech was, I'd bet you're dead on.
That's what I think, too. But I have to walk a fine line with my family, they are all over the place. Just I and my one daughter who was the wildest one, are pretty solidly Republican although we don't agree on which one lol.
It isn't just about life issues, you are right.
