Des Moines, IA (LifeNews.com) -- At a campaign stop in Iowa, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told an audience that she favors abortion. Clinton meant her comments to come across in the same moderate tone former President Bill Clinton, but the way she phrased her position could come back to haunt her.
Abortion advocates frequently insist they don't support abortions but want to keep them legal as an option for women.
Clinton, like other pro-abortion politicians, has used the "safe, legal and rare" mantra as a way to tone down their stridently pro-abortion views and voting records against bans on partial-birth abortions or tax-funded abortions.
Normally politicians say "abortions should be safe, legal and rare" but don't talk about their own position supporting or opposing them. Clinton changed and went a different direction.
I am in favor of abortion being safe, legal and rare, she said.
As if noticing that she told the audience she favored abortion, she quickly added, I would do everything to make it as rare as possible.
But, MSNBC's Tucker Carlson in November questioned whether that was really the case.
"Has she ever suggested placing any restriction of any kind on abortion, limiting for instance abortion for sex selection? Or any restriction, of any kind. Ever? I must have missed it. Has she?" Tucker asked.
Last month, Clinton largely avoided a question of how abortion is hurting social security. A woman in the audience said abortion is going to make it harder to keep the system afloat.
She simply said she has worked to keep abortion "safe, legal, rare."
...It’s a shame her mother didn’t have one...
She has to be. She’s married to one.
She said, “I like the flavor of abortions!”

Your tagline is one of the best around!
Hmmm somehow I think she meant to say she supports a woman’s right blah blah blah... or then again, maybe not.
She really is a lousy on the campaign trail.
I wonder how many abortions she has made Bill pay for over the years?
She stole the line.
Who do you think stuffed it into Bubba's gob?
I am in favor of abortion being safe, legal and rare, she said.
Safe for...the babies, Hillary?
“Who do you think stuffed it into Bubba’s gob?”
Have no idea, you win on that one.
I assumed one of his writers that had to re-write one of his comments since he was on the wrong side of the issue from the vast majority of Americans.
I am in favor of abortion root canals being safe, legal and rare, she said.
If abortion doesn't harm a life, why does it need to be rare?
I seriously doubt that the woman has had an original thought in decades.
She has always been his chief ‘writer’. Of course, she only controls him from the waist up...
Sadly, in a Democratic primary, it IS a great platform. She didn't make a mistake; she's trying to shore up her base.
Exactly. It’s too bad Hillary’s mother wasn’t in favor of abortion.
I thought I found them all on his website, but now am not confident but what he didn't have some of them taken down.
Point by point, I would like to know what he is for that I would oppose, not just abortion. Two family members are taken by him, not that I can dissuade them, but I like to be as informed as possible especially since it looks like a win for him in Iowa tomorrow; in any case, it's going to be close. Some say Iowa doesn't count. Maybe not, but it has made a difference in the past.
I couldn’t find a link, but B. Hussein Obama voted against an IL law that wanted to ban partial birth abortion. He favors killing the unborn up to the moment of birth. I just can’t stomach that especially since he attempts to call himself a Christian.
I think he voted against the ban on partial birth abortion & also something about parental notification. A lot of so-called Christians believe in choice aka abortion. Hillary is supposedly a Methodist, can't remember her referring to herself as a Christian.
I googled Obama's voting record awhile back and did find a site, wasn't sure it was all there or credible. The was a lot of legislation I wasn't familiar with, am not all that politically astute.
And thanks.
