Three Iranian drug traffickers hang limply from the nooses after being executed in a square in the central city of Qom, 120 kms south of Tehran. Iran hanged 13 convicted criminals today, including the mother of two young children who had been found guilty of murdering her husband after discovering he was having an affair. (AFP)

How do they do the hangings?

Are the nooses attached, then the crane lifts them off the ground? That doesn’t seem as quick as the floor dropping out from under them, and breaking their necks.

I don’t have an objection to that particular execution, either. Hopefully no political prisoner dressed up as a common criminal in this episode.

So, let me get this right. If a man kills a woman for having an affair, it is a justifiable "honor killing", but if a woman kills a man for having an affair, it's murder. More proof that Islam thinks of women and children as mere chattel.

The murderer initiates aggressive force and kills an innocent person. The drug dealer uses no aggression and kills no one.

We properly penalize murderers, but executing drug dealers is murder by government.
