Thompson's Retail Politics
Human Events ^ | 01/02/2008 | Martha Zoller

Posted on 01/02/2008 8:30:00 AM PST by rightinthemiddle

“Normally, lack of money is a problem but in the Iowa caucus, lack of money has forced Thompson to do retail politics, which is what he’s best at. He’s getting a surge from it. In this case, lack of money may make the difference.” -- Steve Gill, author of “The Fred Factor”

I know what you are thinking. That gal is in the bag for Thompson and she’s scratching for anything she can find. Not so, I am a typical conservative, I don’t know who I am voting for in the primary. I know who I am not voting for, but I’ll keep that to myself -- for now.

Fred Thompson is traipsing around Iowa, literally. He’s basically out of money and he’s going town to town, house to house, diner to diner meeting the folks. Unlike, Hillary Clinton, the more you see and talk to Fred Thompson, the more you like him.

He walked into the room at the Des Moines Marriot where FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform) was hosting their Congressional Task Force Radio Row. He met and talked with anyone in the room until he sat down for an extended interview with Jan Michelson of WHO-AM of Des Moines. He couldn’t spend time with radio shows from Georgia or Kansas because if he doesn’t make it out of Iowa and New Hampshire, he won’t make it to these other states where his has a good chance of winning more than a few of them. He wowed the room and then headed out to the next stop.

During the course of the day, I saw him all over Iowa in the same boots and leather jacket that he was wearing at the radio row. This was Fred Thompson’s day. (snip)

I dont know why youre so concerned about who has the best GOP electibility credentials. If the GOP DOES NOT choose the right candidate ie Constitutionally conservative and willing to stand up for our borders as well as stand up to the terrorists and put the Leftists in their place when it needs to happen — and I guarantee you that isnt going to be McCain or Huckabee or Guiliani — then they can FORGET about me ever being a part of their party ever again...and I’ll write whatever **** name I **** well please when it comes to voting time. If they choose Huckabee, they can kiss my lily-white a** as I walk out the door. If they choose McCain, I’ll know they arent serious about winning and they might as well just take down the GOP banner and start calling themselves Democrats. So stop worrying about whether or not the candidate looks good for the GOP. Im still on a hot burn from 2006 and if need be, I’ll be among those ready to kick their butts back to reality. Apparently they will need a second whomping to get the point, the blueblood patrician toads....

Iowa boy here chimin’ in.
Fred is turning out to be more of a statesman than a politician. I once heard the great philosopher Friedman(yes, Kinky) say “A politician is concerned with the next election and a stamtesman in concerned about the next generation”.
Fred is spot on with every issue that typically defines conservatism. He is getting my nod tomorrow evening at the schoolhouse caucus get together.

I’m in Iowa too. I think Fred has a good shot at a sold third. That is enough to get him at least a coach class ticket for the next few weeks.
Maybe we should start a thread focusing on Iowa voters. I think it would be interseting to see what others are saying during the closing hours.

Never said I gave a hoot about “electability” or “polls”.

You are projecting something... it ain’t me or anything I said.

I only said:

Fred is DEAD and has NO CHANCE of higher than 4th or 5th...

He will be one... McCain will be the other...

They’re the same candidate anyway....

If McCain gets the nomination, the GOP is toast. The man is a PIG. He is a traitor. Fred is the man who should be chosen. Period. I take great exception to you putting McCain in the same class as Fred. For one Fred doesnt scream at his constituents or the people who dont choose him. And its MCCAINS stupid name on the CFR bill - not the THOMPSON/Feingold bill - if the whiny boy can't take the heat he's getting for that, he should STF up and retire and let Real Americans deal with the fallout of the CFR, which Thompson has at least been owning up to. Has McInsane EVER come out and said 'oh gee, i might have made a mistake?" I DONT THINK SO. ITS HIS FAULT WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT. AND I WONT FORGET IT.

I hope you have to eat your words come election time.

With all respect you know “polls” don’t really mean anything more than what the people who conduct them want you to know. They are not carved in stone and in the end really mean very little. Are you going to base your vote on a poll? The people of Iowa are not stupid. Fred Thompson is a voice for people like us we have not seen for sometime! He is real he does walk the walk and he is not afraid to stand his ground, we have not had a president close to that in far to long. I will admit I am a member of his campaign force but only because I believe in the man and if you enjoy your freedom he is the only choice!
It is the votes that count not the polls and lets hope he does have enough of a showing in Iowa that he can and will continue and kicks the hell out of the liberal he wins against in November.

Are you able to read?

I did not say McCain would win.

I said one of them would come in 4th and the other 5th.

Because they are INDISTINGUISHABLE !!

You think McCain and Fred are the same guy?

You must put bread on the dog and let the toaster outside to go potty.

You said Fred would be 4th and McCain 5th or vice versa. So again, I ask, who comes in third? Ron Paul?

Yeah.

Ready?

It goes like this....

Romney IS Giuliani.... he’s just lying about it.

Fred IS McCain... he’s just lying about it.

Romney leads, cause he’s a much better liar!

I agree that Fred is great and would make a great President.

But when I put on my political/campaign analyst hat, I fear that he has run a pretty awful campaign - and I fear that that is not only reflected in the polls now, but will be reflected in the votes later.

We shall soon see.

Let’s hope that I and most of the polls are completely wrong and that Fred comes in a strong third and somehow gets some life in NH, and beyond.
