Trans-Texas Corridor meetings are scheduled

The State's Transportation Department has nearly 50 public meetings scheduled to hear from people along the proposed I-69 portion of the Trans-Texas Corridor. The corridor is planned as a superhighway with separate car and truck lanes, freight and commuter rail and utility lines. Parallel to I-35 [actually, that's the I-35 portion. --TSR] and the future I-69, today's US 59 are the planned routes.

TEX-DOT's Randall Dillard says that several citizen's advisory committees are being set up along the I-69 and I-35 routes to get feedback. Opponents say the corridor will put Texas in a security risk and damage the economy.

The first three public meetings are scheduled for February 4, 2008 in Brownsville, Center and Huntsville.

New Year Begins Series of Trans-Texas Corridor Meetings (KLBJ)

12/31/2007

Newsroom

The state's transportation department intends to begin 2008 with a flurry of discussion about one of the most hotly-contested transportation projects in the entire nation. The Texas Department of Transportation, beginning next month, will begin hosting a wave of public meetings designed to hear from regular people about one of two paths the Trans-Texas Corridor will take. On February 4, three meetings will commence the series to get feedback from people who live along the future TTC-69, which would run roughly parallel to U.S. 59.

"Issues they're interested in, issues they're concerned about," says Randall Dillard, director of TxDOT's public information office. "While there's a lot of interest in this corridor, there has never been enough federal dollars or state dollars to actually build the project here in Texas."

The superhighway, including separate lanes for cars and trucks, freight and commuter rail and utility lines, would run from near Texarkana into south Texas, possibly Brownsville or Laredo.

The first three meetings are scheduled in Huntsville, Center and Brownsville.

So much for Corsi’s argument that everything’s a secret.

In Oklahoma, the people here are going to make the Trans-Texas Corridor do a U-Turn, right at the Texas/Oklahoma border... LOL!

While there's a lot of interest in this corridor, (much of it negative and opposed) there has never been enough federal dollars or state dollars to actually build the project here in Texas

Still trying to build a road Texans don't want, with money that isn't there.

My prediction, I-69 will be built as a conventional interstate, it might be toll, but otherwise will be conventional. All the extra rail lines and other garbage will fall by the wayside to get the road built.

Mississippi is building I-69 as a conventional interstate and is making a lot of progress.

Some of the funding for it is apparently coming from nearby casinos.
