The only criticisms published of Fred Thompson are personal (the “laziness” charge that is belied by his current campaign schedule and his resumé) and strategic (his late entry into the race). His conservative credentials are widely heralded and stand in stark relief against the records and positions of his “moderate” competitors.

Says it all.

Personal stuff is what make most people vote for President.

Rush, when you or one of your staffers gets around to reading this thread, please consider the good you could do for your country by endorsing Fred Thompson. I know you have had a policy against doing such a thing since you began broadcasting, but things have changed.

The events of 9/11 have proven that our enemies can and will kill us given the chance, and another inept, P.C. addled democrat president is exactly what our enemies are counting on to advance their cause.

I know your ratings are probably better when there’s a dem in office, but this is not the time to be concerned about ratings or pre 9/11 commandments.

It’s time to emulate those brave soldiers you so admire and “Be all you can be” or do all you can do. After all, their lives depend on having the best Commander in Chief we can give them.

That would be Fred.

I believe the greatest service Rush can give us all is to categorically go through the governance record (Not what he/she says now) of each candidate and show which is the most consistent and who has been poll driven into the latest whim.

Why should Rush Limbaugh endorse anyone?

Rush needs to straighten his younger brother out and then both of them need to endorse Duncan Hunter.

How about this idea, suggested to me by another Freeper:

A significant number of Republicans will not vote for Rudy, Mitt, Mike or John, as evidenced by the level of passionate comments against these candidates in the blogosphere. Whether it’s 5% or 25% of total Republican votes, it will be enough to lose.

However, if Thompson is the nominee, all Republicans will vote for him, because he has no significant policy or ideological negatives. Thompson will unite the party like Reagan did, even bringing in many Reagan Democrats.

Rush & David don't have idealogical differences.

So maybe this IS Rush endorsing Fred without breaking his rule and looking like a flip-flopper.

If Fred doesn’t get the nomination he needs to run as a third party candidate. I normally don’t support anyone on a third party ticket but in his case I would!

This the thread I wanted to start and hoped to author so eloquently.

Thank you.

To Rush and your Staff you know you are reading this.

Do you remember a certain part of the story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team during the 1980 Olympics?

Here is a refresher redacted so the moderator won't pull it:

"Herb Brooks came into the locker room beforehand, and said, "If you lose this game, you will take it to your f****g grave." Then he turned and walked almost all the way out, before turning around and saying again, "To your f***ing grave."

If you don't endorse Fred and we end up with Rudy McHuckamney or Hilda/Breck Girl for 4 to 8 years, we all have to live with the consequences, but you know it is a defining moment for you.

It is time to win the game.

Although I agree, that Rush should endorse Fred, I’m not so confident as the author is that the endorsement would carry that much weight. Not that Rush isn’t a huge voice in the Conservative crowd. Of course he is. But conservatives, by their very nature, are much less persuaded by endorsements than liberals and leftists are. Liberals and leftists need to be told what to think, while conservatives tend to think for themselves.

The reason Rush is so popular is that he sees his job as showing “the other side of the story”, the side the media tries to cover up and hide. Although Rush thinks for himself, he doesn’t try to think for the rest of us, and leaves us to think for ourselves.

Which is part of the greatness of Rush.

I’ve heard some people speculate that Rush Limbaugh and some other conservative talk radio hosts actually would LIKE to see a Beast victory, since that would bring about the greatest boom in talk radio (until the Beast outlaws it) in the history of the medium.

One reason Rush should endorse Fred is, perhaps, to kill that kind of speculation.

An endorsement in the primary season would be a big mistake for Rush. Why put himself on the line? There is not an obvious choice in the Republican field...that is why there is so much "infighting" here on FR.

Each of the men have some good conservative credentials.

The best Rush has said, imo, is that we shouldn't vote "for" a candidate based upon one primary attribute--that is the kind of thinking that kills nominees in the general election.

Has anyone bothered to read post 23?

Futher info:

Fred Thompson has taken Spencer Abraham as his campaign manager or campaign advisor because Abraham "Understands the threat of Muslim terrorists."

What a joke!

Michigan has the highest number of Muslims in the country today and Spencer Abraham said that if he were re-elected to the Senate, he would increase the quota for Arabs to come to the United States from the Middle East. Does this sound like someone who understands the threat of Muslim extremists?

Abraham is highly praised in The American Muslim Council (AMC) publication of 1996 with excerpts from the following interview with him.

AMC: "Do you believe that AMC's role in promoting the interests of Muslims in America has begun to reduce discrimination against Muslims and mitigate the negative stereotypical image of Muslims and Islam in the West? If so, how was it accomplished?

ABRAHAM: I commend the American Muslim Council's efforts in reducing discrimination against Muslims and mitating the negative stereo typical image of Islam in the West. The efforts of AMC in sponsoring such dinners as that of February 13, 1996, assists in shredding a positive light upon the many wonderful accomplishes of the religion and the members of the Muslim community. The AMC should continue this good work by encouraging political involvement among its members.

"AMC: In which ways, if any, did the Muslim community play a role in your successful 1994 campaign for the U.S. Senate?

ABRAHAM: As you may know, I am very proud of my heritage (Lebanese Orthodox Christian)and of the bipartisan support that I received from the American Muslim community during my Senate campaign. The community in Michigan and all over the United States encouraged and supported my candidacy--and for that I am grateful. I am working hard in the Senate to listen to the views of the Muslim community and to make sure that the community has a place to voice those concerns."

The dinner Abraham referred to was the first White House celebration for EID Al-Fitr on February 20, 1996 by President and Mrs. Clinton. The AMC publication also shows a portrait of the First Lady, Hillary Clinton, holding a copy of the Koran.

As for AMC, Steven Emerson writes in his commentary, "Friends of Hamas in the White House," that AMC's tactics of claiming anti-Muslim racism rather than acknowledging the existence of Islamic extremism deliberately serves to silence criticism of terrorists." "The American Muslim Council is a radical group that supports radical Islamic terrorists movements," says Seif Ashmawy, the American Muslim publisher of the Voice of Peace in New Jersey. "I am shocked and outraged that the White House would embrace them." Unfortunately, President Bush picked up on the tradition of honoring the end of Ramadan in the White House.

You are judged by the company you keep.

Disagree. If he were to back Thompson now and Thompson does not get the nomination, his endorsement will have less impact for the eventual winner.

Rush should NOT make an endorsement. Changing his mind on this would only diminish the esteem his audience has for him.
Principles! Both Rush and Fred have them!

The fact that he hasn’t yet is an amazing oversight. Waiting can only hurt the conservative cause.
