Has something to do with no work and some folks take it to the limit . No work=no ergs, which means no bus should be used or flipping on a light switch or any of the other commandnments/statememnts/suggestions created by Pharisees, and other highly placed priest in the bad old days. There are 39 prohibitions in the Mishna( which as a messianic Jew I just abide by what Jesus said and how he is the Lord of the sabbath....it gets crazy )Here are some Jewish rules for the sabbath I doubt many Christians have heard of:

1) Plowing
2)Baking
3) Slaughtering
4) Building
5) Kindling a fire
6) Hitting with a hammer
7)Weaving
8) Tying
9) taking an object from the private domain into the public or transporting an object into the public domain over seven feet, and believe me some folks take this literally!!
These are excerpts from the "Everything Judiasm Book- a sort of Judaism for dummies but I use it ALL the time especially when I am to meet certain orthodox Jews...I highly doubt the Seventh Day Adventists would conform their Shabbat to such extremes and even other Jewish groups such as the consevative or reform have very light rules but some do adhere to the old traditions

Of course one can see if a country were at war or a person had diarrhea, a person was in need of an IV, an animal from a herd in danger of dying,taking anything to the extreme may be hazardous to ones health and well being. Also, most all if not all the prophets shunned the rules and regulations because Jews followed all the law( as best they could) but lost sight of God's true intentions for laying down the law and the viable need for a Messiah to stop all this sacrifice, good works vs bad works etc ad infintum.
You can read the Talmud, the Mishna all the Halakhah( laws) but it gets extremely boring, at least to me. As for Seventh Day Adventists, I think many of their hearts are in the right place. They adhere to the Shabbat as Jews do but in a very lax manner however, I too still go to Torah studies at a nearby synagogue every shabbat morning and we cook, sing songs, eat, use the heater, argue scripture while others may not poke their heads outside until the sun goes down. There's not enough information in this article to note whether the woman was overtly loud in reading to her children, seems VERY extreme to me from reading but there'a a lot of haters out there in this new world of "political corretumness." I doubt I've answered your question but at least you might understand a little of Shabbat( Sabbath) means to a Jew and to those who chose to worship/ hold their services on a Saturday rather than a Sunday.

The Vatican has worked with Muslim countries to prevent UN efforts promoting abortion. In the US more people are killed each day via abortion than terrorists kill in a month. Yes, I have ridden a bus. Yes, they are noisy. Yes, people say things I would not want a child to hear. Yes the ACLU files stupid and ridiculous lawsuits. What is your point? I'm not responsible for any of it.
Are you suggesting that for these reasons this woman has a *right* to loudly read the Bible? All I am saying here is try to look beyond your nose. Other people on the bus are a captured audience. They have no place to go to get away from it. Just because other people may have done this to you (loud music).. doesn't make it right, or justify her doing it to others. What if this woman was reading from the Book of Satan? Would you feel the same way?
I don't think that it should be acceptable to loudly read the Bible, or the Book of Satan, or the NYT to everyone on the bus.
Public property belongs to Christians as much as anyone.
Again, I ask you to see beyond the end of your nose. Do you want the Nativity put on public property SO MUCH .. that you are willing to have scenes put up by Devil worshipers too? Don't you understand that you cannot allow one and not the other? Once you open that door .. you open it up to EVERYTHING! If putting up the Nativity means allowing all this other stuff .. then I'd rather put the Nativity up in my home.

No I don't like loud music, I hate rap, and I dislike being subjected to cars with stereo's that cause my entire vehicle to bounce to the sub-woofer. It's not illegal in Atlanta? That's no excuse to allow someone to violate the rights of others on a bus.

Yes they do attack Christians unfairly. They also attack the military unfairly. They also attack Business unfairly. Do you think that this somehow justifies a position that this woman should be allowed to read the Bible to people who do not want to hear it?
You strike me as someone who has a whole lot of frustration and cannot handle it when someone says something you do not want to hear. You need to learn to direct your anger and frustration where it will do some good. Lobby to change the law in Atlanta, instead of whining to me about it.
Try to engage in civil debate. Listening to other views requires intellectual courage. I am not your enemy. I agree with most of the things you have said .. but I am trying to point out that we have to be careful about what we allow. We don't want to open the door to things we won't like.
