You were saying — The way the word “cult” is thrown around these days, The Boy Scouts could be considered a “cult” ....

In the secular media and perhaps in the public’s mind it may be a hazy concept that can be twisted one way or another, according to one’s disagreement with certain viewpoints and so on. And that may or can be a “secular definition” of it.

But, in regards to Christian doctrine, it’s very precise and identifiable. If you look at a book that is considered a “standard bearer” to the identification of “cult groups” (from the standpoint of basic, historic and foundational Christianity) — Kingdom of the Cults by Walter Martin and Ravi Zacharias [one of the people who was invited and spoke at the Mormon Tabernacle] — you can see that it’s not hazy or capable of sliding all over the place, according to a person’s “likes or dislikes”. It’s based upon basic, historic and foundational Christian theology...

Star Traveler

The NXIVM group’s teachings have also been compared to: “an amalgamated version of belief systems like Scientology.

Google this group, not just the NY Post’s comments.
This country does not need the Huskester to beging with.

Why didn’t they title it:

“Teetotaling Baptist Candidate Hypocritically Receives Donations from Liquor Interests”?

Anytime you see the MSM use the word “cult”, it is intended to have the bad connotation that is prevalent since the “Jim Jones Cult” massacre in Guyana. It is also associated with the numerous “cults” that popped up in the 70’s and 80’s to brainwash young people for whatever reason, usually money or slave labor on “communes”. The words in the MSM are not haphazardly chosen for fun, but for effect.............

It's like “Instant Karma”. When Mike calls Mitt's religion a "cult" then all is fair in love and war and politics.

What do they say about people in glass houses?

My only hope is that this brings an end to the silly religious wars among the GOP faithful and the only true Conservative and Constitutionalist; Fred Thompson, will be the beneficiary.

So far as I can tell, I don’t think Huckabee is involved in any cultic stuff—I was referring to another poster’s happening to have used the term Mojo.

The term has roots in occultism as in a supernatural power.

Every candidate gets money from people they don't know. What could the reason be that a "cult" would give him money? Maybe they think they will get better treatment in court if he's elected. He most likely didn't even know who they were. What do you do if you get money from the KKK or David Duke? Why was it OK for Clinton to get money from China? Why was it OK to get money from cocaine dealers and pose for pictures in the Whitehouse with them? Why is it not OK for Cheney to have been the CEO of Haliburton?

This is just election "fluff" because they can't find a real story to slam him with. BTW, I am a Fredhead or Hunter supporter( Haven't decided yet)

When did Mike ever call Mitt’s religion a cult?

Yes, it’s done that way to offset the negative connotations of the *real cult* religion of Mormonism (i.e., Romney) which is a non-Christian cult group, from its teachings and doctrines.

Star Traveler, there is something you need to understand. Jesus Christ loved his Father in Heaven. His Father taught him and showed him all he needed to know to successfully perform his mission on earth.

Then 300 years later, a rather notoriously wicked political emperor, who was pagan to the core, forced a perverse philosophical doctrine down the throats of all organized religion. It is called the Nicean Creed. The Creed basically stripped the truth of God the Father and the wonderful relationship Jesus had with his Eternal Father from any religious discussion or understanding.

When the young boy, Joseph Smith, went into that grove to ask his sincere question about religion, he did not understand why Christ told him that the creeds were an abomination. But if you study history at all, the philosophical corruption of the creeds will be perfectly obvious.

The tender Father and Son relationship between God the Father and His beloved Son, is something you may not want to understand, but it is crucial. That relationship is more than evident in the entire 17th Chapter of John.

To believe as your professional clergy advocates, you have to turn the entire chapter into a meaningless soliloquy between Christ and his ethereal, bodiless self.

Yes...you can continue the bigoted hate speech of the professional clergy based on the fact that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do not believe the politically expedient, and specious, doctrine of the creeds. But now you know how deceptive the clergy have been about this. (If nothing else, follow the money.)

I would invite you and all who read here to pause and consider what I have said. The Nicean creed is not scripture. Substantively, it is no different than Hillary calling a conference of the National Council of Churches and dictating how all religions will believe.

Instead, come and discover the Jesus Christ of scripture, the son of the living God. As Peter testified, God is the living God. He does live, we look like him, and Christ is His beloved Son. Nothing is more scriptural than these truths. And their father-son relationship is an example of what Christ wants for each of us.

Take that away as Constantine did in the Nicean creed. And hide the facts as your professional clergy continue to do by calling revealed and restored truths a dangerous cult, and you are left with only the doctrines of men, mingled with scripture.

PS: If you and your ilk continue to rail against the sincere, and often very educated members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as evil, non-Christian cultists, don't be surprised when the day comes that the secular politicians start persecuting Nicean Christians as un-American, dangerous right-wing radicals. At that day, Mormons will stand by and with you in protecting our Constitutional rights to religion. But you might feel a little chagrin.
