Tolleson Police busted a human smuggling ring early Sunday after they found dozens of illegal immigrants hiding behind produce in an 18-wheeler.
"I haven't ever seen so many concealed in one place," said Sgt. Lisa Mendoza of the Tolleson Police Department. "We run into smaller situations, people in vans but never on this scale here."
Tolleson police got the call shortly after midnight from a passer-by who felt suspicious about the semi.
Officers arrived and after opening the back, found a truck full of green bell peppers.
"The peppers were in the middle so the officer was able to climb up and see what looked like heads in the back," said Sgt. Mendoza.
Crammed into a space not much bigger than most closets sat 23 illegal immigrants including four children, one only 3-years-old.
"I'm sure it was scary, especially for the children," added Sgt. Mendoza. "I can't imagine a three year old being in a small cold area like this."
Police found several more in the cab and a couple others hiding nearby for a total of 37 illegal immigrants.
Officers say survived their ordeal in surprisingly good condition.
At least four immigrants managed to get away, according to Tolleson Police.
The immigrants told police they were being taken to an undisclosed drop house.
All of them were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Police never did find the smugglers.
ha! but don’t worry, Jorge is workin’ on it.
And please “Pahlease” give them condoms.
Then they didn't bust the smuggling ring.
ping
Was this a Mexican truck?
Thanks George for opening up US roadways to Mexican 18 wheelers with multiple crews.
this is getting really stale -
Now that the police in Arizona are asking everyone they have contact with about their immigration status, expect the population of Arizona to decrease or remain flat as thousands of illegals move to California, Colorado, or some other place where the risk of being arrested and detained in jail awaiting deportation is much less. Illegals and criminals are not stupid, they go where they can live without fear. Hopefully California and the other states rife with illegals all make it a policy to ask everyone about their immigration status. That would lead to a lot of self deporting of the 12 million or so illegals.
Yeah, he's on the case.
“What do you boys have to say for yourselves?”
“...Broccoli, celery, gotta be...Veggie Tales!”
So that’s why the price of bell peppers has gone up. Less supply!
Had to be, "Police found several more in the cab"
Some appropriate cammo and they'd have never been discovered.
And 37 illegals who needed *somewhere* to relieve themselves. Happy veggie shopping!
Do repeat that at the New Year's Eve party tomorrow night! I would! More mini carrots for me!
Lettuce go?
