Christians banned from saying 'Allah'

A Malaysian newspaper is reporting that Christians in that Muslim nation are being banned from using the word "Allah."

"We cannot let other religions use it because it will confuse people," Malaysia's Deputy Internal Security Minister, Johari Baharum, told the DNAIndia publication.

He said "only Muslims can use the word 'Allah.'"

The issue erupted when a Catholic publication used the now-banned-for-Christians word.

Herald, the Catholic Church's weekly newsletter, used the word and was warned it is at risk now of losing its publication permit.

And maybe Tolkein patterned his orcs after the Arabs - language certainly sounds similar.

I think C.S. Lewis patterned his Calormenes after the Arabs. They live in the desert, and are described as "bearded and dark." Some of the Calormene names sound vaguely Middle Eastern, like "Tashbaan" and "Rishda Tarkaan." Even Calormen, the land where the Calormenes live, sounds like caliphate.

Aslan, on the other hand, is the Turkish word for lion.

And I’m thinking of a descriptive word for Malasyan muslims...

It’s a contraction of two words, the second of which is “head.” The first is 4 characters, starts with an ‘S’ and ends with a ‘T.’

Interestingly enough, when translated into Malaysan, it means “Allah!”

That is neither here nor there. Muslims cannot ban christians from using the word “allah”. It makes no sense. Since I don’t speak arabic, I don’t really give a ratsass. But what about all those arabic christians? What are they going to do?
